NBA Comparison: Allen Ray

Strengths: A strong bodied combo guard with a smooth offensive game … He is a very good slasher and can find his way to the basket with consistency … Off the dribble he is dangerous because he has a well refined handle and can use a nice mix of moves to break his defender down … He knows how to use his body to shield the ball on penetration, as well as when he finishes at the basket … Not afraid of contact, he looks to attack the help defense and can finish strong at the basket … Has become a very steady playmaker, he was asked to carry a heavy load in his senior season … He keeps his head up and looks to make the right play … Shows a good shooting stroke, and can be dangerous when he gets into a rhythm … Has proven to be a solid defender, and has the tools to carry it over to the next level …

Weaknesses: Suffered a serious knee injury during his sophomore season … Had discipline problems causing him to miss some time … Has not been able to find consistency with his shooting or scoring … His release is a bit slow and he tends to hang too long before releasing … Extremely turnover prone, he plays out of control and does not make good decisions … His miserable end to the season hurts his chances …

Strengths: Tremendous spot-up 3-point shooter with range beyond the NBA line Has one of the quickest first steps in the college game. Can get to the rim at will and has very good leaping ability Draws fouls very well Is a lock down defender who’s motor never stops running. Usually guards the opponents best perimeter player Despite being one of the more talented players on the court, Dyson does not shy away from getting on the ground after loose balls. He often chases down opponents and gets steals from behind after his team misses a shot or commits a turnover Came on very strong at the end of the season, scoring 20 points or more in 5 of UConns last 7 games … Extremely tough and competitive, won’t back down from anyone … Very fast player, excels in transition and in the full court game …

Weaknesses: Gets very little lift on his jumpshot. At 63, that could pose as a problem in the NBA Dyson can catch and shoot all day and is exceptional at driving to the basket, but he lacks the intermediate game necessary to be a successful 63 shooting guard at the next level Showed some progress in creating his own shot late in the season, when he began to put the ball on the floor and pull up for mid-range jumpshots. He still needs to become a lot more consistent in that facet of the game … Is often out of control when he drives to the hoop and has a tendency to pick up offensive fouls that can be avoided Needs to improve his shot selection. Dyson shot just 36.1% from the field last season, most of which can be attributed to the large quantity of forced shots he took. At times he tries to do too much, but he should mature as a player in the coming years under Calhoun Shot an underwhelming 72% from the free throw line last season Was considered to be skinny coming into his freshman year, but since then he has put on some muscle. From an athletic standpoint, Dyson is ready to play in the NBA, but he could stand to put on 5-10 more pounds.
