NBA Comparison: Eric Bledsoe

Strengths: Sexton is one of the most dynamic guards in the country and has the tools to become a versatile weapon at the NBA level … Although he is slightly undersized in height at 6-2, he plays with great physicality, athleticism, and aggression, and has a 6’6.5 wingspan and a 8’0 standing reach … He’s a player that loves the spotlight and seems to be energized by the bright lights and stiff competition … He loves to play through contact and has the frame to absorb it when going to the rim … He has the strength and athleticism to finish through contact, and he also gets to the free throw line at a very high rate … Sexton still could stand to become more consistent from the charity stripe, but overall he converts his attempts at a more than proficient level … Sexton combines his strength with blazing speed, agility, and creative ball handling to form a lethal slashing arsenal … He does a great job of finding angles to get to the basket and changing directions to keep his defender off balance … Sexton also does a good job of changing speeds on the perimeter when coming off of ball screens or in isolation … That allows him to keep his man guessing and much more easily get into the lane … Sexton is constantly in attack mode looking to make a play … His wiggle off the dribble naturally leads him to make a play either for himself or a teammate … Sexton’s jumper also looks promising, as he combines his ability to get to the rim with a variety of moves on the perimeter … He utilizes step backs, pull-ups, and even some mid range fallaways … He is a dangerous scorer in the mid range area, and even though that is not an essential part of today’s game, the best scorers all excel in this area … While not a pass first point guard, he has the prerequisite vision and playmaking ability needed to be an NBA floor general … He is a great facilitator in transition, and his ability to get into the lane in the half court allows him to collapse the defense and find open teammates all over the floor … His aggressive style combined with his explosiveness point towards high upside on the defensive end at the next level … Sexton also is not afraid of the big moment and does not back down from tougher competition … He plays with tremendous passion and seems to perform his best in big games … With his two-way skillset and determination, Sexton has a chance to be a quality lead guard in the NBA …

Weaknesses:
Sexton still has some room for improvement as a slasher despite his explosiveness … He has the ability to finish with his left hand at the rim but is obviously much more comfortable going right at this stage … He needs to add a bit more finesse to this department in his game, as he will not be able to rely on sheer athleticism once he reaches the NBA … His shot selection could also use some polishing … He tends to force the issue at times and often tries to make the flashy play instead of keeping it simple … While Sexton has proven to have excellent shot making ability, his balance on his jumper is not always consistent … He is more of a streaky shooter than a pure knockdown threat at this point … Sexton is much more of a combo guard than a true point guard, which could hinder his ability to run a team at the next level … His assist turnover ratio is below two to one, which is less than ideal for a lead guard in the NBA … He will need to develop into more of a facilitator to maximize his offensive efficiency at the next level … He also has a tendency to become a bit stationary without the ball in his hands, so his activity off the ball can improve …

Notes: Measured 6’2, 183.5 lbs with a 6’6.5 wingspan and 8’0 standing reach at the 2017 Nike Hoop Summit … Named MVP of FIBA U17 World Championships in 2016 … Son of Darnell and Gia Sexton… Has older brother named Jordan and older sister named Giauna … Consensus five-star recruit…McDonald’s All-American, Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoop Summit selection … 2017 McDonald’s All-American Slam Dunk Contest champion … Scored 40 points, half of which came while playing shorthanded (3 on 5) in close loss to Minnesota …

William P. Desautelle III 12/21/17

Strengths: 6’2 scoring point guard … Good length relative to his height with a 6’6.5 wingspan … Extremely quick. Very talented guard with a scorer’s mentality, showing an innate ability … Can get into a zone and take over the game offensively … Reads his defender well and creates for himself with little effort … Has a developing pull up he can get off in ISO situations … Scores in bunches and from anywhere on the floor … Can get to the rim and shoot from outside … Good touch on floater … Can score in transition or in the half court, regardless of the flow of the game and doesn’t need plays aren’t ran for him … Has a very good step back jump shot from three, even when tightly contested … Led the Nike EYBL in scoring with 31.7 points per game, which was nine more points per game than Michael Porter, who was second … Tough. Not afraid of contact and plays comfortably with it … Forces the action … Reliable free throw shooter and gets to the line at will … Made 181 free throws (shot 85.4%) over the Nike EYBL which was over twice as many as Trae Young and Chris Lykes who finished with the second most with 90 … Very athletic and quick and possesses a good first step … Explosive. Good body control and acrobatic finishes … Can lead the break and thrives in transition. Handles the ball well … Can get where he wants and scores well off the dribble … Slices through tight spaces in the defense … Isn’t afraid to attack the paint no matter the size of the help defense … Great ambidexterity. Drives and finishes equally well going both left and right … Good and intense on ball defender … Very active and moves quick laterally … Very quick to the ball. Has a knack for offensive rebounds. Almost rebounds as well on the offensive end as he does on defense … Competitive and fearless … Never quits on a play. Plays with a lot of passion … Has proven to be a guy that loves the big stage and performes well the bigger the game …

Weaknesses: Still becoming a point guard,  Sexton has shown improvement passing the ball and developing into a point guard during his senior year but is still transitioning as he’s naturally a scorer … Will need further development and experience bringing out the best in his teammates … Averaged 20.5 shots per game over the Nike EYBL … Plays like a one man fast break at times, even in the half court … Needs to improve as a decision maker … Although it worked for him at the high school level, he doesn’t have ideal shot selection … Forces offense and can be reckless at times … Doesn’t always keep it simple and attempts the unnecessary flashy play at times … Only averaged 1.1 assist to 2.6 turnovers per game over the Nike EYBL … Can improve moving without the ball … Still has room to improve as a shooter … More of a streaky shooter than consistent outside threat … Plays with passion but wears his emotions on his sleeve too much at times …

Outlook: Incoming Alabama freshman. Earned MVP of the FIBA U17 World Championship … Sexton had a breakout summer and showed he can excel with the nation’s best. He has established himself as the top scorer in high school basketball. Played in the McDonald’s All American Game (eight points, seven assists, and three steals), Jordan Brand Classic, and Nike Hoop Summit … Measured an 8’0 standing reach at the Nike Hoop Summit.
