don042488ParticipantI think John Wall is better off going to Duke. It’s in his backyard of North Carolina, his mom is very ill and he can be near by her and she can come to his games, Wall going to a team like Duke is the equivalent of Derrick Rose going to Memphis, Wall would be joining a team that without him can make the Final Four and with him can get to the championship game, Wall would be playing for a hall of fame coach that has experience of coaching NBA players, not mention he would be playing for a team that likes to push that ball up and down the floor, which suits his style of play. Wall playing for Duke would be a great fit.

James-Harden-13Participanti think duke would be a great fit. i know they are late arriving to the john wall recruiting party, but it seems like they are coming on strong.

Mr.Duke 1426ParticipantBeing the duke fan i am and seeing how the athleticism will drastically drop if gerald henderson leaves, or if he stays (which he probably wont) but isf he does that could be one of the most explosive backcourts in the college game.

carmen5ParticipantTyler Zeller, Deon Thompson, Ed Davis, Travis Ware, David Ware. All 6’9″ and above and all will be on the UNC roster next year. UNC has a shortage of guards if lawson and ellington leave early for the draft, ginyard and green graduating and will graves just not being that good. Larry Drew would compliment him very well with his disciplined style. I think that if he went to duke it would have a reverse effect on his draft stock, at duke he would not be able to shine, he would be held down by the strict confines of the traditional duke playing style, which isnt a bad thing but for what he is looking for in a college, isnt right. Rose went to memphis and flourished in their dribble drive offense because that showed all of his strong suits, beasley and durant went to down teams and simply were the man at their schools. If wall goes to duke he will be a role player just like everybody on dukes team, which would be great if he was looking for four years. At North Carolina he will be able to show case everything as well as contend for a national title. (not saying he wouldnt contend at duke)

Roting SanlaParticipantI wouldn’t say the competetion is that much better then top of the line collehe ball, the things that prepare them for the NBA overseas are the adapting to a new lifestyle and working within a true system that doesn’t rely so much on 1 on 1 games like in High School where you just left your best player do whatever he wants and keep the ball in his hands.

Nonetheless, his scoring ability, length and athleticism give him a chance to make in in the league. - Posted on: Sat, 01/31/2009 - 10:46pm #141410

fresh24ParticipantLets be Realistic he’s not going to Duke cuz he going to be a one and done player anyway and if he signs there some will transfer out
- Posted on: Mon, 02/16/2009 - 3:56am #141840
WildDudeParticipantWould he be eligible? He can’t play in the All-American game because hes a 5th year player so he has to take the NBA in consideration because he certainly would be among the top 20 picks…
- Posted on: Tue, 02/17/2009 - 4:22pm #141927
mannofnosmilesParticipantThat’s exactly who Wall would look like in Duke’s system. Let’s be realistic, Duke basketball is perimeter oriented and John Wall’s weakness is the 3-ball, although he is improving. John Wall is a rapid-penetration, create-off-the-dribble style of point guard. He’s not a perimeter oriented point guard like Jason Williams was at Duke, therefore he will struggle in Duke’s system just like Sean Dockery did. Sean Dockery was a great point guard at Julian High School in Chicago (McDonald’s All-American)…but he looked completely horrible in a Duke uniform, because he wasn’t a good 3-point shooter or a perimeter oriented player. In high school, Dockery constantly hit the lane and created offense off the dribble and no one could stop him….like Wall is at Word of God. Therefore, Wall would not be a good fit at Duke. (Deep down inside, Coach K’s knows this…which explains why he went after Kenny Boynton rather than Wall, in the beginning…once Kenny committed to Florida, Coach K switched his attention to Wall). Wall’s game and physical attributes are strikingly similiar to Derrick Rose’s…therefore, he is BEST suited in a Memphis Tigers uniform and Coach Cal’s DRIBBLE-DRIVE offense. Not to mention that Wall would be the full-time point guard whether Evans stays or not. IMO, it’s a non-brainer!!!! Go to Memphis and use Rose’s one year there as a template.
- Posted on: Tue, 02/17/2009 - 7:39pm #141941
WildDudeParticipantI agree but wouldn’t Wall rather make a name for himself, because he will constantly be hearing comparisons to Derrick Rose and Wall wants to prove himself elsewhere besides Xavier Henry committed to Memphis and is a better fit… Wall seems like a Baylor lock anyway
- Posted on: Wed, 02/18/2009 - 2:02pm #141993
deuce4offDuke would be a terrible fit, plus the kid will never go there……There is no reason he shouldn’t go play at Memphis with Xavier Henry and potentially DeMarcus Cousins. Throw in Wesley Witherspoon and Tyreke Evans and they will be a shoe-in for the final four. Does this *wilddude* really think he’s going to Baylor?? haha jokes

gberg23I think the backcourt of him and Henry would be better then any other backcourt combo he could be a part of and Duke needs to get tougher inside before they can be a great team, instead of just really good. I have no idea if they got a big name inside guy so maybe it wouldn’t matter.
- Posted on: Sun, 03/01/2009 - 12:23pm #142628
aio2002ParticipantIf he goes to Memphis, not only would he fight for playing time he would be in the shadow of Derrick Rose. A starting lineup of Wall, EWilliams, Henderson, Singler, and Plumlee would be one of Coach K’s greatest starting lineups ever. All of Coach K’s one and done players (Maggette, Deng) have at least made it to the final four. The Sean Dockery comparison is laughable…Dockery was NEVER the number one overall recruit coming out of high school. Duke has more players in the NBA than any other school…he would add to the list.
- Posted on: Sun, 03/01/2009 - 2:08pm #142644
gberg23Who would he fight with for playing time? Evans will be gone and he will run the point. I see no fight for playing time there.
- Posted on: Wed, 03/04/2009 - 7:56pm #142860
EuroBallParticipantJohn Wall should go to Kansas or Memphis because they are two successful programs for the past two seasons. They Both made it to the finals last year and might have a chance to do so again. Both Teams fit his style of play and it will benefit his college career.
- Posted on: Thu, 03/05/2009 - 9:39am #142872
mannofnosmilesParticipantWho said that Dockery was the #1 point guard coming out of high school?? No one! Besides, that has nothing to do with it. The point is that if you are not a perimeter-oriented point guard, than you will NOT flourish in Duke’s offense PERIOD. Sean Dockery is the latest example of that and Wall doesn’t want to become the next. And if Wall chooses Memphis, he will not be playing in anyone’s shadow…that’s just crazy. It’s simple: Wall’s basketball game is very similiar to Derrick Rose’s…and the Rose + Memphis combination worked out well enough to make Rose a #1 pick after just one college season. Think of it as a formula. It’s sort of like when Stephon Marbury saw how well the Kenny Anderson + Georgia Tech combination worked. Marbury’s game was similiar to Kenny’s, so he choose Tech…and the rest is history. The same goes for shooting guards that choose UConn. And the same goes for big men that choose Georgetown. They aren’t living in Ewing’s shadow…instead, they are sticking to a formula that works. Unlike the Dockery + Duke combination.
- Posted on: Thu, 03/05/2009 - 9:52am #142873
mannofnosmilesParticipantEven if Tyreke Evans were to stay one more year, Wall would NOT have to fight with him or anybody else for playing time. Coach Cal and Evans, both, have made the comment that Evans is not a point guard but more of a shooting guard…Evans considers himself a combo…meanwhile, Cal has said in interviews that he did not like the idea of Evans (his leading scorer) playing the point guard position, however, it’s his only option at this point in order to have a decent offensive flow and rhythm. John Wall, on the other hand, is a true point guard…not a shooting guard or a combo…a POINT GUARD!!! If Wall was in a Memphis uniform today, he would be the starting point guard and averaging at least 35 mins per game. Now Kansas is a different story. He will have to fight for playing time at Kansas, especially since Collins is more than likely to be back next year (not a 1st rounder). That would leave Wall fighting for playing time with Collins (the current starter), Elijah Johnson (incoming point guard/combo guard), and Tyshawn Taylor (who is capable of running the point). BOTTOM LINE: Wall’s best opportunity for making it to the NBA, not talking about winning a national championship or making it to the final four…but making it to the league…is Memphis!!!! Simple.

bananamanParticipantStraight up, I’m a Duke fan so yes I’m biased.
I’d like to take another angle on this. John will excel wherever he goes, with one exception, the NBA. Skill wise, yes he will do fine and probably even flourish, but he’s mentally not ready. I mean who is at 19 years old?! With millions of dollars, tempations, and exploiters everywhere, the chances of messing up your life or making major mistakes are virtually unavoidable. This is were coach K is proven. The American Express commerical did a good job showcasing that coach prepares his players for life, and not just games. His players love and respect him. He is a great father figure and is devoted to the betterment of his players. If I was coming out of high school and I had the skill John has, I’d be recuiting coach K. I’d also initially plan to stay for 4 years. The money will be there no matter how long he stays. College can be some of the best years of your life and having a mentor like coach K and his staff along with other mature teammates is priceless. Whatever his decision is I wish the best for this young man.

dsalwhy the heck would he go to Duke all they do is wreck talented guards….. UNC is where he is going
- Posted on: Mon, 04/13/2009 - 9:07am #145509
scg1Duke would be a terrible place to go. All of Dukes players recently have sucked in the NBA anyway and the offense they run wouldn’t allow Wall to shine in college as he could.

Stanford hoopsParticipantfirst of all going to duke would be a big mistake..if youre a highly ranked pg and you go to duke then youre game gets worst other than jay williams..im guessing its because of the system..his best fit would be memphis or kentucky…as far as ya’ll laughing at baylor having a chance i guess ya’ll forget the micheal beasley story..( player follows aau coach)…actually unc would be a good fit too since tywon lawson is gone but i think they are out of scholarships…..and as far as coach k preparing players for life..he has too cuz they have no chance at life in the nba..wall has a chance so even if he is a bust in the nba hes still gonna have millions in his pocket..if ya’ll think a player decides to go to a college cuz ” it prepares them for life” then ya’ll need to just say no to drugs…other then the exceptions..princton players harvard but im sure even they would trade in any other career to have a nba career
- Posted on: Wed, 04/22/2009 - 11:14am #147012
bmorebaskekballParticipantDuke would be a good fit. He would have the ball in his hand a lot. Coach K is not stupid if Wall was at Duke he would put him in situations to attack the rim all the time. He would improve his defense and become a better decsion maker. With Wall’s athletic ability and lenght he could be a great defender if he wants to be.
- Posted on: Tue, 04/28/2009 - 6:29am #147595
jsdghifadgfuiogjkaghsdauigParticipantI agree with u totally! Duke always does that to its players! For sure point guards though…duke will get him nowhere. I heard Coach K was telling Wall that he would use wall to help switch duke to a transition type style of play. I wouldnt fall for this! and at duke, u arent even sure if u will start and wall is a future star with a future star mindset. UK would be the best fit for him. Even though i have been a LONG TIME DUKE BLUE DEVIL! Probably my fav college basketball team, that and UW(ashington; im from seattle/tacoma). I just dnt want him to end up like jay williams :(. Run and gun style of play, and a great coach that will help him get into the NBA, is wht he needs and UK has that.
- Posted on: Thu, 05/14/2009 - 5:47pm #150288
a2ParticipantDuke wouldn’t be a good fit for Wall at all. He is not fit for that offense which will mmake him look worse than what he really is. Duke also doesn’t produce good NBA players, most grat players at Duke that do go to the NBA( a few exceptions), end up not meeting the expectations. UNC are where the real stars shine. John Wall needs to find a place that will bring out the best in him such as memphis did for Rose. Kentucky would be a good place for him to go because of coaching and he would give them that extra piece that could get a national championship. Where ever he goes he will be a program changer even for Duke but that is not the place for him. I hope he chooses wisely because i look foward to seeing his full ability next year.
