uneik1ParticipantI played a pick up game a long time ago with Glen Rice, Matt Geiger, Alen Ogg (not sure if spelled correctly). Alen Ogg was a 12th man center who probably never averaged more than 20 minutes a season and dude coudn’t miss from inside of 17 feet. That should tell you a little about the quality of skills these guys have. Even the 12th man of a team.

thetruthParticipantyou be suprise. coaches dont look just for talent. they look for dedication, hustle and heart, willingy to sacfrice their body every night. trust me if you was trying out for a coach like larry brown. and you came in camp everyday playing good defense, hustling, diving for balls, good attitude, being the first in the gym and the last to leave. theirs a good chance brown would take a serious look at you. ask cartier martin.

I was there with some friends for a bachelor party, and I was talking to some girl, next you thing you know there was 3 dudes in front of me saying “you don’t need to be talking to her”. I a stcuk my chest out and said “is that right” but before I even finished my sentence they started swinging. I went down on the first punch, and I think that is when I must have broken it. But I got up and started swinging and we were in a crowd of people at a club and I was just on adrenaline. Next thing I know the cops grab me from behind and threw me in a pick up truck. Immediately the pain in my ankle just exploded. And I worked construction, so I was pissed because I knew I was’nt gonna be able to work for awhile.

Tim49461Participantlol all you guys kill me…..come on really…for the people who said they could make it, if they played defense…
1. Do you even understand how athletic people in the NBA are. i am willing to put $100 says no one on this board can keep the 12th man on any roster in front of them. I also willing to put another $100 down that says any NBA player can prolly bench press twice what you weight. So even if you do stay in front. It doesn’t matter they would out muscle you in a heart beat.
2. Am i really hearing kids brag about putting up 35ppg etc., LOOK news flash kids. I am extremely sorry to break it to you guys but if you’re not on varsity as a freshmen, your chances of playing d-1 are extremely slim. Every player i know that is playing d-1 or we have recruited has played varsity since they were freshmen or in some states 7th and 8th.
just think about it. It really isn’t that hard to score in Highschool, the talent level is extremely weak. Heck when i was a Soph. in Highschool. I put up 45 points on a team that has ranked #3 in the state for their class. and had 3 all state players. I am not bragging, i am saying if you can’t score in Highschool then you got problems with your game.

some kids start at
6a.m Morning Jog
6:30a.m Weights
8:30a.m Plyo’s
9:30a.m Break
11:00a.m Conditioning
12:00p.m Drills (Shooting, Handling, Concepts)
3:00p.m Break
4:00p.m Scrimmage
6:00pm Break
8:00p.m Free lance workouts. (Open for anything, Weights, Drills, some watch film of the drills to see what they are doing wrong)
and most kids are out by 10 some stay until 11 but those kids don’t do so well the next morning0 -

doubledribblerParticipantNO!!!…
I am glad everyone seems to be pretty realistic on here. Someone wrote that the NBA had the best 300 players. I understand what you are trying to say, but realistically a lot of those guys are not the best 300 playing professional basketball. There are a lot of guys that are better playing in other leagues, just not the very best. Personally, I think the best players are smaller guys because they are generally the most skilled and athletic. The problem is that most of these teams think they need 7 footers, which ends up getting them Jaron and Jason Collins on their roster. Part of that thinking is true when you have a guy as skilled as Yao or as strong as Shaq down low. Like the one guy said, there are a lot of things that keep some guys from making it like drugs, grades and even injuries. I know that it was hard enough just growing up in a super small town. No matter how good you were, you were ignored if you did not play in one of the two “big cities.” I played with a guy that was definitely d1 basketball material, but teams only showed interest in him for baseball and none of those were major schools in the sport. Sure he’s playing in the MLB now, but he was a better basketball player. Basically what I am saying is there is a lot that can happen from the time a kid starts playing until they reach college/nba draft eligible age.

Tim49461ParticipantI don’t understand Q interviews for what?
and FoTG….Dude you’re 200lbs at 6′ it aint all muscle. Chris Paul looks stocky at 175lb and you want me to believe at 200lbs you are cut like greek god Ummm. Dude don’t get mad when people state the truth and if you didn’t gain any explosiveness from losing weight at 200lbs then you didn’t train the right way. simply losing weight will not increase anything there are ways to go about it.

To answer the question. I would not play a sec in the NBA. I can play ball but not like that
0 -
Posted on: Thu, 08/27/2009 - 4:48pm #206814
Tim49461Participantthat aint my forte there Q…usually kids only do interviews for major publications. Rivals, scout, espn. Other types of big named sites. And the best chance you have at a interview is kind of like a sneak attack one. Just randomly show up and hope they take the 5 mins to answer.
I mean some of these guys love the attention but most hate it.
0 -
Posted on: Thu, 08/27/2009 - 4:52pm #206818
Tim49461ParticipantWell maybe you forgot to write it in but simply doing that when your muscles are used to the intense weight training is why you felt weak dude….You got to accompany those plyo’s with muscle toning, simply put higher reps lower weight. Intense plyo’s, if you go through the right Plyo program (6 weeks, 3 days foot work, 2 days lifting) i can not see how you didn’t gain any explosiveness. Matter of fact it is quite un heard of.

0 -
Posted on: Thu, 08/27/2009 - 5:07pm #206836
Tim49461ParticipantYesssir… U still got to keep your muscles in shape dude. Think Sprinters…Usian bolt is ripped in every muscle group there is…Running, changing directions deals with all the muscles. You got to Tone though, and depending on the case strength building as well.
I’m sure you understand that it is extremely important to lift during the season. If your just running then your body gets weak and just can’t handle the beating. lifting will increase your stamina, kind of a basic concept you know if your body is use to lifting that much weight then it stays the same but if it doesn’t have to lift that weight anymore it breaks down.
0 -
Posted on: Thu, 08/27/2009 - 5:29pm #206853
Tim49461ParticipantWell i agree with him changing it up like that every week. In fact i would 1000% recommend that. You should never stick with a workout for more then 2 weeks without it changing. once again it goes back to the same concept of if you train the same over and over your body gets used to it. So by changing it up like that it makes the body work harder to recognize the muscle needed lift that ( or basically just forces the body to continue to strengthen itself since it is constantly in shock, think back to when you first started lifting when it hurt like hell afterwards but after awhile it was just nothing. You need to work so that it feels like the first time)
Umm i think the plyo program i had through Highschool was i want to say PlyoCity ( not sure). But at Kentucky the guy has his own program so there is no way of finding it i think. But yea Plyo City was great, gave you all the exercises and what lifts to do, even set up the charts at how much you should progress each week no matter if you think you could do it or not. Basically forcing you to work hard or you get left behind in the program.
0 -
Posted on: Thu, 08/27/2009 - 5:45pm #206863
Tim49461ParticipantNot sure if it is free or not, Our coach was the one with a sheet. I stole it one day and wrote all the exercises down on a piece of paper but i forgot where i put it…it is around here some where.
The lifting done with the plyo’s was Power cleans, dead lifts, EVERY ab workout possible, Hamstring curls, Squats. These were always done on the off days between the footwork drills. So it was all out for us, I have noticed tho mixing the two isn’t very fun or smart. It could cause some big time injuries or just some really bad strains. But you def. separate lifting and the box drills, and footwork.
With these lifts tho, all of ours was based around strength training. We were going up alot each week. But since your further along then we are. I would prolly suggest just doing what your doing now, and just hang with it for a couple of weeks. Let the plyo’s catch up to your level of strength before you continue on.
I don’t what you call them but we called them dot drills ( 5 dots in the shape of a hour glass) those would insanely kill you in the beginnning. But you do those ALOT of stretching ( increase flexibility, which is very underrated part of Speed, and jumping) and the explosion drills…You go through all that and i saw big time change in 3 weeks. never finished tho got to week 5 then school started up and the stupid MSHAA ( Michigan sports something something) restricted coaches from working with more then 3 kids after school) so i really don’t know how to finish to the program.

But yea these workouts are getting fun tho, huggins is going to have to catch Wall before he can even try to figure out how to stop him. Kid is pretty good… just keeps getting better.
