     ESPN is releasing their Top 100 NBA players count down this week. 

    51 – 100 Monday

    31 – 50 Tuesday

    11 – 30 Wednesday (today)

    1 – 10 Thursday (tomorrow) 

    Obviously these things are never perfect & they elevate some young players over established Vets which drives me crazy – but I realize this is content & content must stir debate & discussion & that only happens when there is some Drama or Conflict 

    Overall, I thought they did a pretty good job so far – what do you guys think? We all have our personal Fav teams &when those players get slighted we get our backs up (Lakers fan here – I admit I’m biased lol) 

    So I just like to hear what people think – any of your home town or Fav teams players you thought were slighted? What did you agree with or what drive you crazy?

     They seem to be taking into account injury so have an excuse to hate in Durant this time. Let’s see where ESPN puts Lebron.

     Leaving DeRozan and Aldridge outside the top 40 is just ignorant, and makes me think these people watch commercials more than actual basketball. Saying that Zion, right now, is as good as Aldridge is basically taking a giant dump on LaMarcus’ career. He was a beast last season.

    Another minor Spurs point: ESPN isn’t the only one who thinks this, but I don’t get people who think, right now, DeJounte Murray is better than Derrick White. White’s breakout season in 2019 was way more impressive than Murray’s in 2018, and Murray’s coming off an ACL.

    Don’t get me wrong, I love DeJounte and am excited to watch him this year. But he’s all defense, hustle and crashing the boards. Last we saw of him, he can’t shoot a lick, doesn’t finish especially well and doesn’t really know how to run an offense. He reminds me of Tony Allen (which is great, every team would love a Tony Allen). White on the other hand is the complete package. I think he could make mutiple all-star teams in the right situation. Reminds me of Chauncey Billups.

      I’ll admit I’m one of those people who thought Murray was better than White but not by much. But you’re right I’ve forgotten a bunch since the ACL injury, that now after reading what said about both White and Murray it gives me pause.

      ESPN analysts have to cater to the fans of the league yet still keep their jobs. Fans love Zion. They think he’s the next Lebron!!! (Too me that’s too much, I’ll admit he’s good but I’m tempering my expectations because of his height, weight, and tendency to get injured) College is different then the NBA. Yes, he dominated college but so would a lot of NBA stars if they were in college!!!

       It’s based on presumed impact next season and as Durant is not anticipated to play he will not be on the list.  Hence why Klay is so low.

      Not quite sure Durant will be ranked because of injury. I know it’s insane, but once you get injured you tend to get forgotten about. Don’t worry, next year he’ll be healthy and he’ll be right back in the top 10 again

      These rankings are just taking into account their value for next season and klay is a big question mark right now. No one knows if, when or how well he’ll be able to play. If klay were healthy you’d have to assume he’d obviously be ranked much higher.

     Since Brooklyn has all but ruled Durant out for the season, I guess ESPN’s leaving him off the list.

     surprised they are so low on julius randle having him at #92 after averaging 21/9/3 last year and getting better every season he has been in the league. Theyve got tons of role players ahead of him.

     I’m surprised too. I have Randle going in round 4 of fantasy drafts this year! And he’s listed as a sleeper. Totally agree with him being a sleeper, so I expect him to improve his game a bunch again. He won’t be happy about 92, I know I’m not, should be at least in the 40’s or 50’s

    They take into account wins too. If a player doesn’t contribute to wins that much than they don’t move into the top 100 very much. (They call it Wins Above Repleacement-level Player or WARP for short.) He’s been on some pretty bad teams in the past. I know the Lakers and Pelicans have improved a lot this year but remember 2 years ago and last year the Lakers and Pelicans were among the worst teams in the league!) Then again, now he’s with the Knicks and they are still not expected to be that good. So maybe he’ll only jump up like 20 or 30 spots not 40 or 50, hence the reason why he’s a sleeper in fantasy not a breakout candidate..

       Well the Pelicans only made the playoffs twice while AD was there, and one of those times he stunned the Blazers and made it to Round 2 by sweeping the Blazers in the first round, when the Pelicans were a six seed, so that could fatctor into him being at #5, but still you bring up a good point. "Is he built for May or June basketball? We don’t know, because we’ve never seen it." That’s one point that Kirk Goldsberry brings up in discussing why AD is at #5, below LeBron (who by the way is ranked 3rd. For the first time in eight years he’s NOT #1!!!)

     Julius Randle 92, meanwhile Lonzo Ball and Shai Gilgous Alexander were 68 and 64. I just look at this list for the laughs these days and to see who ESPN wants to fuck over this year.

      ESPN creates these lists to give content, not only for the website, but for the non-sports programming on its various channels and radio. It should not be surprising that the voters (ESPN employees) come up with a list that has things for them to talk about.

     The list is terrible and Bleacher Reports all time top 50 is even worse. 

    Derrick White, LMA and DeRozan all definitely should be higher, Klays ranking is obviously terrible and many others you could point fingers at too.

     

    While everyone has an opinion, unfortunately anyone with an internet connection can get theirs heard these days.

    was ranked 13th, you heard that 13th. What can CJ do better than Klay? Can CJ score better than Klay? And the most obvious of all, can CJ defend better than Klay?

       Not comparing him to klay because of the injury thing but I’ll admit that 13 seems pretty high for CJ. I’d consider Bradley Beal to be a superior player and he came in at 19. Ben Simmons coming in at 15 at this point in his career seems ridiculously high to me as well.

       I still think Derozan is a better player than Mccollum. I dont think thats a popular opinion but theres no way the difference between Mccollum and Derozan is 30-40 spots. Lol thats just not even rational Mccollums never even been a 1st option. Im sure he would thrive in the role but could he lead a team to the playoffs without Lilliard? 

      Mccollum is a bit of a media sweetheart he goes to all the talkshows, dresses fancy for interveiws and stirs shit up so they have something to talk about. Im sure they appreciate that.

     as has already been said, since this is annual thing, they must be taking klays injury into consideration. Hence durant not even making the top 100.
