OhCanada-ParticipantSeems nowadays everybody is copying James Harden’s travelling stepback moves. While sometimes it can be a running gag like the double stepback some of his three step moves are being practiced seriously. This kind of reminded me of a couple moves I used to always attempt when I was younger and someone was taking things a bit too serious.
The first was the Jordan push off. The second was Iverson’s stepping on someones foot while they are backing up to the rim trying to defend. These were also good ways to start fights though lol.
Its been a while since I’ve played some decent basketball. The gym I used to play at is too far from where I live now and theres no real active place for adults to play ball where Im currently living. So Im just wondering are these moves still actively being used, what are the current cheap pickup moves?

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThe all-time cheap move in pick up ball is fouling on purpose to prevent your man from scoring. Pretty sure this has been going on since the inception of pick up ball and there is really no solution to stop it. There is really no penalty for fouling in pick up basketball other than the other team getting the ball back. It’s not like your giving up points at the line or risking fouling out. So it actually is probably good strategy to do it. Still it’s incredibly annoying. There’s nothing worse than when you have your man completely beat for a layup and they just bear hug you from behind to prevent you from scoring. It’s just the ultimate non-basketball play.
On the opposite side of the spectrum but equally annoying is the guy who will call foul every time they drive the ball no matter what. Again, there is really nothing to incentivize against this because you call your own fouls and it means you get the ball back. But there is nothing worse than when your playing a competitive game and it just devolves into either a rugby match with hacking on every play to prevent scores or you have to stop play and argue for 10 mins after every call. But if you play enough pick up basketball, it just comes with the territory.

TarHeelRavenParticipantWhen I was younger and used to go to the YMCA I would play pick-up sometimes with guys much older than me. When I would get the ball, inevitably some guy from the other team would shout at me to throw him the ball and me being the nervous teenager I was playing with a bunch of older guys, I’d just throw them the ball without actually looking to see if the guy was actually on my team. Not really a basketball move per say, but of course I always thought of that as just bush league.
