With Kawhi only taking two guaranteed years with the Clippers, I was wondering would AD also take a two guaranteed years plus player option for year 3 type deal with the Lakers next summer.

With him wanting to be a Laker, it is an almost given that he’ll resign with them next summer but I feel he could take a shorter deal giving him another run at FA in 2022. That would tie in with when LBJ’s deal expires so imagine the leverage AD could have then and he’d also reach the 10 year veteran stage so could get a far bigger deal then.

He’d have only just turned 29 and would likely be the top or very near the top of any FA list, so this way he’d keep every option open. Plus he’d have the safety of his player option if he had any injury issues etc.

That is probably the most likely scenario considering his agent.
But honestly, watching how things played out for Cousins and Wall, I think it is time for those stars to think about financial security and don’t throw a potential 100M for the chance of holding out all cards.

Good point Khaled but the guys involved are already earning big money from top rookie deals and a couple of lucrative extensions before they reach this point and then you throw in all the off court earnings and endorsements they get,

DMC has lost a lot of money due to not taking available extensions, John Wall got his mega max before he was injured so is quids in that way

Do contracts even matter though? With the way the league has shaped up even if AD signed a 20 year deal he still has all the leverage. After the PG situation the owners are definitely going to be pushing for a lockout to combat the power players have now.

Didn’t he already say he won’t sign an extension until after the season, ? So if he wanted to be a Laker going forward, couldn’t have already signed an extension ??

His extension now would be based on his current salary and he may even have to opt in for next season. So he’ll go to FA to get better deal.

If lakers get off to slow start. Could infigh ting occur, could they miss the playoffs again?

Would A.D. leave the Lakers for a better team?

Would love to see him with the Clippers.
