    Look I get that this offseason has been a major disappointment for Knicks fans. When you go in with expectations to assemble a super team out of thin air and wind up striking out on all your major targets it has to be considered a failure. However, things could have gone a lot worse for the Knicks and for the first time in a long time I can actually see a organizational commitment to being patient and building the right way. 

    When you enter free agency withwith dreams of KD/kyrie and end up with Julius Randle, wayne Ellington and Reggie bullock it’s a tough pill to swallow. But as you can see with Brooklyn, developing a culture to appeal to free agents really matters and the Knicks haven’t done that yet. The Knicks could have easily panicked and thrown big money at lower tier guys on long deals just to say they did something. They didn’t. The contracts they gave out were short-term deals to high character guys who can work with the young players to help establish culture. They preserved their cap space for the next major free agency period in 2021, when hopefully the franchise will be in a better position and have more to sell. In addition, the veterans they signed are mostly guys on favorable deals who might be able to flipped to contenders for draft picks at the deadline. They maintained a lot of flexibility moving forward.

    Don’t get me wrong, the Knicks are still a long way from contention and patience doesn’t always work in a market like New York. Dolan unfortunately still owns the team and doesn’t seem to have any plans of selling. A lot can still go wrong here. However, there is no denying that steps are being taken in the right direction and considering how dysfunctional this franchise has been for so long that has to considered progress, even if the results might not be evident on the court right away.

    well, here’s the only optmicism i can see.  last year, it seemed like they told coach fizz to tank in hopes of securing zion.  this year, i’m sure directive will be much different.  fizz is a good coach.  he took a pretty mediocre memphis team and gave a kawhi-lead spurs team all they could handle in round 1 of 2017 playoffs.

    as far as signings, i don’t think they are all horrible.  i think where the front office failed is by not securing second tier FA like russell/middleton/butler/tobias after they decided they were not going to offer KD max.  seems like they pivoted too late or didn’t expect names to fly off the board so quickly.  i will say the players they got are good rotational, value players that toronto, LAL and LAC will regret not having for the 2 teams that miss on kawhi.

    C – robinson, portis

    PF – randle, gibson

    SF – bullock, knox, dotson, brazdeikis

    SG – barrett, trier, ellington

    PG – smith, payton, ntilikina, allen   

    portis showed well as a stretch, offensive minded big that can rebound.  randle fills stat boxes and is a versatile scorer.  payton had a period in march where he almost averaged a triple double.  ellington is a great spot up guy.  bullock is definition of 3-D role player and gibson gives a brute upfront.  they have depth and fizz has options.  and maybe all this competition will push robinson, knox, barrett, trier, dotson, brazdeikis, smith and ntilikina to get closer to their projected ceilings.

    I’m happy the Knicks didn’t overextend themselves and reach for Kyrie and Durant, both of whom are injury prone as it is. KD may never be the same after surgery and he’ll be entering his 13th year with a ton of mileage on him. His injury is a type of wear and tear injury, meaning he is being run into the ground. Who knows what he’ll be like when returns. Too many question marks and I don’t think the knicks want Amare Stoudamire part 2.  Kyrie has his own set of drama and issues which won’t mesh well with the knicks young lineup. I’m getting sick and tired of every expert claiming the knicks struck out in free agency. All these people are going to look stupid in a few years. 

    I’m very excited to see how Michell Robinson, Knox and RJ form their own BIG THREE.

    Even though they miss out of KD and kyrie i dont think they will be as bad as everyone is saying. Theyve added a few nice piece.. randle is legit and will be solid for them, payton is a great pick up and relatively cheap.. ellington and bullock are knock down 3 specialists and porter and taj and help robinson develope

     This team reminds me of that 2017 Heat team. It’s a mix of young and veteran guys who have something to prove and end up being solid.

     They have only had 3 winning seasons in the last 18 years and are on an unbroken run of 6 succssive losing seasons which they hope to turn into a run which emulates the Celtics 8 successive titles from 1959 to 1966,

    If they keep going to the draft they will get that franchise changing player eventually but will probably trade him for a veteran.

    They are going to keep cap space to make a run at LeBron in 2022.

    The average New Yorker still thinks the team is a big deal and that they can attract top players whilst else laughs at them.

    Its up to fitzdale to maximize their talents. They should be a fast break team
