JJ Reddick has apparently agreed a 2 year $26.5 million deal with New Orleans Pelicans. This is a bit of a surprise as JJ was considered likely to sign with a contender if he could agree terms.

He clearly thinks he can still use that option in a couple of years to chase a title. But it is a great pick up for NOP. JJ may be 35 years old now but had his best ever season last year and has played his best basketball post aged 30.

His shooting immediately helps NOP spread the play and fills their need for a proven 3 point shooter. How they will fit him in remains to be seen if they look to keep Holiday. A lot of teams now run 3 guard units and so NOP could use Lonzo, Holiday and Reddick with Ingram as stretch PF and Zion as a smallball C.

Lonzo has the size to guard SF’s and Holiday is also an elite defender. Zion’s amazing athleticism and bulk would mean he can provide the muscle in the paint.

If NOP did go with these 5 starters it will be interesting to see how the touches and shots are shared around. Lonzo I’d assume would be the ball carrier, Holiday will need shots, they have signed Reddick as a shooter so he’ll have to get his fair share of looks, Zion is the franchise’s future so could Ingram be the guy who doesn’t get so many look-ins?

I believe they said they were injury induced and not believed to be serious long term.

I’m suprised JJ signed with this up and coming team. My guess, he feels he has a role with this team and NO was offering the most money  and a 2 year deal. This was the same thing JJ did when he left the Clippers, signed a deal with the up and coming 76ers, they only offered him a 1 year deal at the time tho. JJ’s been playing his best the last 2 years with the 76ers.

Can we call them the New Orlean Blue Devils?

    PG: Jackson

    SG: JJ

    SF: Ingram

    PF: Zion

    C: Jah

    GM: Langdon

Jrue and Ball. Even tho JJ is as a better starter than bench guy, and getting him going early has been a key when he was with the Clippers and 76ers.

Another thing I forgot to add is that if NOP are still a work in progress they have the option of flipping JJ to a contender say next summer for a future asset.

If they don’t go 3 guard smallball then I think JJ is the 6th man. Holiday has to start and Lonzo is long term so they go with those two.
