halfdecayedParticipantLmao. He knew all along what he was doing, it’s been well known for weeks that all he had to do was trade these last 3 scrubs and AD to waive his trade kicker for them to have the max space. Dude is an ex agent and a CBA expert, and you all ate that media bias towards the Lakers lmao. KAWHI ON DA WAY brothers.

CoachWyersParticipantWell informed fans never ate into the media BS it was pretty simple to see what had to be done if you looked onto Spotrac.

dmo21ParticipantSign one max guard and then a bunch of ring chasing vets to minimum deals. Just like they did in Miami. Probably won’t work as well as James is older and Davis has injury problems. But that’s what they are going for.

BothTeamsPlayedHardParticipantPlease, why is everyone forgetting about Melo?!?! 4 on 5 please! A little respect. Supercool Beas is a phone call away. Alex Caruso can cheer. Andre Ingram can babysit Talen Horton-Tucker. DJ Mbenga is due for a comeback, DeMarcus Cousins passed his career playoff minutes count, and now has 24 minutes on him. Plus, McCaw has that third ring on him. Reggie Evans tries way too hard in Big3. Jay Williams might be given a shot just to get him off ESPN mornings. Sasha Vujacic signed with a second division Italian team a couple months ago knowing this day was coming. The options really are endless.

MopgrassParticipantThat’s ridiculous. They opened up money to get a max player. They will play 4 on 5.

BogDon_KryptParticipantI really think the Lakers are going to use this extra cap space to sign Rondo, Lance "Born Ready" Stephenson, Javale McGhee, Michael "Born High" Beasley, and Caramel Anthony. That team just fits if you look at it:
PG: Rondo
SG: Born Ready
SF: Caramel/Lebron
PF: Lebron/AD/Born High
C: AD/McGee
I’m sure they will will the rest in with ring chasing vets like JR Smith (he wants more), Jones Jerebko, etc.

BogDon_KryptParticipantSorry before you neg, I forgot about Kuzma although he may not get much PT with Caramel Anthony taking his 20 shots. Now please re-adjust your neg into Plus 1 on this post and the one above.

Reptilian MonkParticipantPelinka has no idea what he’s doing. Woj-Lakers won’t get a meeting with Kawhi. Ramona- No way AD waives the trade kicker. Lots of media negativity on the Lakers despite them opening a max they should spread it out unless Kawhi wanted in. D’Lo, Danny green, Beverly, Terence Ross, Brogdon, few of those guys. Likely will bring in Carmelo,JR or Korver.

MopgrassParticipantI still think there are some in the Pelican’s office that are still mad at the Lakers. I assumed that’s who leaked the idea that the other Laker staff had to tell Pelinka he hadn’t cleared enough space.
When Magic “bad at my job” Johnson introduced Pelinka, a big selling point was that he found somebody who understood the cap. He repeatedly said this.
I think they were just taking shots at Pelinka.

festar35ParticipantHe 100% forgot about cap space.
He had to trade the rest of the roster to free up more room.
LeBron had to give up his number in order for Anthony Davis to decline his trade kicker.
All of this could have been avoided, but because of Pelinka being a bit of a dumb-arse they had to scramble.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantExactly. He got desparate and David griffin fleeced him. He should’ve worked it into the original deal to make sure they had max level cap space anyway but those details got lost in the shuffle. He got lucky he was able to clear enough for a max salary anyway, but it wasn’t like it was all part of some master plan. Wagner or Williams could’ve actually possibly been a useful player for them in the future and they essentially had to give them away for nothing.
I mean, they might still assemble a super team and it could all work out in the end anyway, but that doesn’t mean the process was handled smoothly and important details weren’t neglected.

halfdecayedParticipantget your facts straight lol, there was no point in asking from the beginning because NO was going to trade the # 4 pick to another team, and there’s no way these guys would have delayed the players introduction and summer league for the trade to happen. Pelinka knew this, and he didn’t ask, that’s been reported yesterday btw. Everyone on god damn reddit knew for a month now that they could create a max slot by trading the 3 scrubs jesus you are salty lol.

The GoatParticipantSo, do the league let you spend everything and then go over the cap to sign players at the minimum until you reach the minimum squad size? If they do, they shouldn’t, that’s ridiculous. Anyway, I’m wishing serious injury on James, Davis and whoever else the sign for the max. No.. I can’t.. I’ll instead be rooting for them to be fully fit and still not make the playoffs. I hope the others they have to fill the roster with are so bad that they end up in the lotto. It may actually happen – playing 6 G Leaguers in a regular rotation cannot be a good thing.

SwatLakeCityParticipantNot a big fan of the Lakers, as a matter of fact, they are my least favorite team. I emphasize this as a preface that Kawhi will not choose the Lakers. He is more humble, quiet, and reserved type of competitor. Lakers are more flashy, and would very attractive to prima dona type players. Kawhi is not that. Which is why Kawhi will go to the Clippers or re-up with the Raptors to defend his title and finals MVP. (I hope he goes back to the Raptors. I also happen to really like Kawhi because of his demeanor and the way he conducts himself when the media isn’t looking)
The Lakers on the other hand will still use their cap space they acquired from sending the Wizards these 3 young players and a draft pick in order to finish and complete the aforementioned AD trade. But they will use it on a player that is attracted to their play style. (flashy) I think that player is Jimmy Butler. To do this he’ll have to decide that Philly isn’t the place for him and not re-sign come June 30-July 6, and force his way out of Philly. He won’t need to try and trade himself there like AD did, but he will need to tell Elton Brand that he is not interested in re-signing. Thus Brand will try and recupe his losses and trade him to the Rockets but that may or not be successful. If it isn’t and Butler wants to leave Philly then the Lakers will get him.

SeattleSuperChronicsParticipantYou know Kawhi?

SwatLakeCityParticipantNo, I don’t, but the way he keeps everything secret from the media is exactly what I believe you should do as a famous basketball player.

SwatLakeCityParticipantExactly what I’m talking about. The media doesn’t know anything. If you keep your intentions a secret the media won’t find out and have a chance to encrypt it or what ever it is they do. Rob Pelinka has his media connections, but that’s not going to entice Kawhi to come to LA even if he did grow up there. He could re-up with the Raptors, but I also wouldn’t be surprised to see him and KD join forces in LAC. Kawhi also doesn’t sound like the type that would go to NYK.
