    The Nets are reportedly prepared to offer Kevin Durant (Achilles) a four-year, max-level contract.

     

    The Nets will reportedly go after both Kyrie Irving and KD this summer, and there’s a real chance they could get them both. Per Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the idea of signing Kyrie without KD is "not what the plan has been," and they’re nervous of having Irving as a solo act. If Durant declines Brooklyn’s offer, the Nets could move on to Tobias Harris.

    I’ll say it – Nets shouldn’t offer KD. They can get another max level player for 4 years, instead of 3. Offer Kawhi 4 years first then go from there. I understand KD is a top 3 guy, but if you can get a top 10 or 15 guy for an extra year without them coming off a serious injury, that’s surely better. I expect this type of deal for KD from the Knicks, not the Nets..

       I agree, I won’t give a max to Kyrie or to Durant.  I would take Dangelo russell over kyrie – would be cheaper too.

      I would offer Durant a deal, just not a stupid franchise crippling max like the wizards did to John Wall.

      Tobias harris and bogdanvic would be cheaper.  Even Marcus Morris could offer some value at a good price

    There are also reports that DeAndre Jordan goes with them, who would presumably backup Jarrett Allen?

    If Nets pull this off, the first year would be…

    1. Kyrie, Dinwiddie
    2. Levert, J. Harris
    3. T. Prince, Dudley
    4. RHJ, Kurucs
    5. Allen, D. Jordan

    Even if Kyrie causes some trouble, and even without KD, I have to believe that team improves slightly on a 42-40 playoff season. Throw in KD, and they’d have to be right in the mix of things, whether Kawhi is still in the East or not.

     It’ll definitely be kind of interesting to see how the nets work this. Do they offer kyrie right away with no assurance from Durant and hope that Durant will commit? Or do they wait for Durant to make his decision before they offer kyrie? If they wait to offer kyrie they could run the risk of alienating him and he could look elsewhere, which could also impact their ability to sign Durant. If they get kyrie to sign first, than they run the risk of KD signing elsewhere and being stuck with kyrie as a solo act, which they don’t seem to want. You have to wonder what is going on behind the scenes and how much these guys are collaborating. Not to mention there is also the Russell factor. If a team makes him a strong offer right out of the gate, they will have 48 hrs to match, which could complicate things further if KD or kyrie take their time. Worst case scenario they lose all 3. 

    If I’m Brooklyn I think the safest approach is to just offer kyrie a max deal immediately and hope he signs. Id let Russell test the market and work on KD. Worst case scenario, if Durant signs elsewhere and Russell walks, you still have kyrie under contract, some solid young talent and a decent chunk of cap space to fill out the roster or roll over for future years.
