juves4783Participanti’m a nuggs fan. A+…they gave up their 1st to get rid of faried’s nasty contract. they conveyed their 2nd because they were so awesome all year.
basically have 2 rookies next year in porter and vanderbilt with tremendous talent. i’m convinced vandy would of been a first round pick in this year’s draft if he stayed another year. he’s basically a bigger version of thybulie with better handles.
and what’s better than that….add bol bol at a minimal cost; future 2nd. if this dude stayed at oregon (and stayed healthy), he would of been lotto pick next year. he can get the porter treatment; rehab and heal. if he ends up panning out, it takes a huge burden off the team to re-sign plumlee and opens up money for beasley. if he doesn’t, denver is already a super deep team and bol can get some time in g-league.

Arc12345ParticipantI know most are claiming it’s a slam dunk A or A+ but I give it a solid B.
We gave up a whole hell of a lot to get Hunter, so he better be worth it. I thought the other picks were really well done – Reddish at 10 is great value and Fernando at 34 is also great value.
Would welcome everyone else’s thoughts on this.

Evan_MilbergParticipantThought Atlanta gave up way too much for Hunter considering the difference in talent from picks 4-10 isn’t that high. Loved the rest of their moves, though. I’ve thought for months that Atlanta was the best fit for Reddish, so it’s good he ended up there. Fernando, to me, has the highest ceiling of any center on that roster, so that may end up being the best pick of the three. I’d give it a B+, upgraded to an A if Hunter becomes an all-star.

chrsw003ParticipantThey traded 8 for 4 so they additionally gave up 10 and 17. People didnt want to trade bc they wanted 3 first rounders. If we kept original 3 we woulda took Reddish at 8, we still got him at 10. Then Bruno was a option at 17 and we got him at 34. So we got 3 guys Schlenk really wanted. Whats not to like? And not to mention they fit perfect, have defensive upside and our long which we badly needed. And they were at positions of need but were also BPA

0-
Posted on: Fri, 06/21/2019 - 5:27pm #1135177
Arc12345ParticipantSchlenk has done a nice job with some picks and a poor job with others.
Trae Young for Doncic was an unnecessary move. Doncic was great value and proven. Unless Reddish really becomes a stud as well (which I’m optimistic he will be) the trade was a mistake. Heurter was an excellent pick. Spellman was a bad pick.
Hunter was a reach pick for a tier 2 prospect giving up 8, 17, and 35. He can be a good player, but he better be for 3 draft picks. Reddish was a great pick and Fernando was a great pick.
I’m not totally down on Schlenk, but I’m not about to give him a pass for moves that weren’t great.

Posted on: Fri, 06/21/2019 - 6:05pm #1135178
chrsw003ParticipantI agree Huerter was a great pick. Spellman not gonna say was a bad pick, hindsight is 20 20 so Looking back on it yeah I would rather have M Robinson but what was Spellman picked like 27 or something? You cant expect a homerun at that spot. I feel like your looking at the Hunter trade in a vaccum. I honestly didnt want to trade up for higher pick but thats bc I am super high on Reddish. I would rather have Reddish at 8 then trade up for Hunter. But looking back that we were still able to get Reddish at 10 and also got Bruno it was a homerun. If Reddish didnt fall to 10 I would feel different, but we still got him. I wanted 1 of Reddish, Hunter, Culver at 8. Another high upside wing at 10 (Sekou or Little) and at 17 Bruno or Bol. But we got two of the 3 inthe first group and still were able to get Bruno. And Hunter>then sekou/little. So big win for me. I dont get it unless you just hate Hunter?

Posted on: Fri, 06/21/2019 - 6:26pm #1135180
Arc12345ParticipantI agree with you on Reddish, Bol, and Fernando.
For me, I would’ve rather them trade 8, 17, and 35 for a proven player, or move those picks for future picks in another draft. I personally would’ve just taken Hachimura and Reddish 8 and 10 ideally but no guarantees Washington wouldn’t have picked Reddish.
That’s my only problem with the move. It’s just a lot to give up and not fantastic value for a guy who isn’t seen as a franchise changer.

chrsw003ParticipantOk, I respect your opinion but dont act like im crazy for liking Hunter more then Rui when all the teams who worked out these guys and saw them up close and personal also like Hunter better. Not only do they like him better, but he was clear cut #4 after the top 3. That doesnt mean im right, but your acting like its rediculous to prefer Hunter over Rui.

Posted on: Sat, 06/22/2019 - 4:09pm #1135217
Arc12345ParticipantI think it’s perfectly fine to want Hunter over Rui. That’s not where my beef is.
The problem I have is giving up 3 draft picks (8, 17, and 35) to grab a guy that in my opinion doesn’t have significantly more upside than a guy we could’ve gotten at 8.
It’s all relative. I’d be thrilled about Young…if we hadn’t given up Luka to get him. I’d be thrilled about Hunter…if we didn’t give up 3 draft picks to get him.

chrsw003ParticipantWe already have franchise changer in Tre. Tre has amazing play making and court vision. His weakness is defense. You got to build around your key piece. We already had Tre, Huerter and Collins who also arent great defenders. Huerter showed hes great shooter but also can create a little, pass, and more athletic then hes givin credit for bc hes a red head white boy lmao. Those 3 can score and lacking in D. In my opinion Tre took Collins to next level and he would be near as good without him. Our 3 draft picks all have good to great defensive potential plus long wingspan which is exactly what they need to surround current cast of Tre, Collins and Husrter. Also I think Hunter and Reddish have best chance to live up to their ceiling playing off of Tre rather thenhaving them have to be a primary playmaker. They dont have to be THE guy, bc we already have the guy. I feel like we agree on most points but I value Tre alot more then you do. I guess we will see who was right in a couple years.

Arc12345ParticipantI value Trae significantly less than you and most people. If he has a great and efficient year next year, I’ll eat more words. He should be an all star if he comes out averaging his second half of the season stats – which I don’t see him replicating for an entire season.
I don’t think Trae and Reddish will be able to justify trading Doncic. But just like you said, give it a few years.

chrsw003ParticipantDallas had Doncic and injury prone Porzingiz who is overrated for what hes actually accomplished. Besides those two though what do they have? You need more then 2 players. Hawks young core is Young, Collins, Huerter, Hunter, Reddish, Bruno. And after next year Baze, Plumlee, Crabb, Hill come off the books which is like 65 mil in cap space.

royk927Participantbuy yeah we gave up a lot to maneuver up to get hunter. But I love reddish at 10 and coming up to get Bruno was savvy. Because of how awesome trae, Collins and huerter have looked we could be more specific in moving up or down to get what we wanted without reaching for certain guys. We’ve come out with two really good defenders and a big who brings a little something different. I like it.

Schlenk swooped in at the closing hours and said we’d take hill and give up what we gave up ( which was a lot in my opinion)
cavs were said to be really high on hunter though and prolly would have snagged him. If it were to play out without the hawks moving up to four it likely would have been garland, hunter, whomever wanted to trade up for culver or white if you believe some of the stuff rumored (Charlotte wanted to move up with white being the target) likely whom ever was left of white or culver then Atlanta with reddish. On a side note I think if that had played out we likely take little and he doesn’t slide as most on Peachtree Hoops know I’ve always been under the notion we’d take two wings instead of a center like what was being projected.

HitsterParticipantI think the Hawks had a good draft, getting the 4th pick and keeping the 10th was a good move. Hunter is seen as the best of the rest after the top 3, Reddish has greast potential at 10 and Fernando was a consensus 1st round pick for most of us. So they have filled the gap left by Prince and added some nice young depth to the squad.

Striver347ParticipantI am absolutely not big on Nassir Little but since he’s a member of the Blazers, its time to exercise some optimism. According to scouts who say he’s a steal, Portland gets an A-. I personally would’ve preferred an upper classman with a niche who I could say reliably offers that niche skill the minute he steps into the Blazers facility. We also signed Jaylen Hoard to a two way contract which I thought was very nice.
I have a feeling he’ll turn out better than Nassir also. Really not a fan of drafting people with raw talent and little feel, especially since Nassir won’t be playing much or so I’d like to think. Maybe Nassir turns out to be a steal, I’m just not keen on waiting for that day to come.

DJR1957ParticipantGrade from B+ to F. A now typical Olshey pick from the late rounds, no help from last years draft, this year, at least Nassir Little gives hope for the year after next if he develops. I would have taken Johnson from Kentucky instead, he can shoot and apparently has more interest in developing. Kabengele from Florida State was still available too. Jaylen Hoard, eh.. Best case would have been trading the pick and attaching one of the bad contracts.

MopgrassParticipantThey’re not my team, but I love what the Pelicans are doing. Jaxson Hayes runs like a guard. Him with Lonzo Ball and Zion sounds like the best fast break group around. Ingram is more of a take his time guy, but you need a half court guy in there. This team just sounds fun.
0-
Posted on: Sat, 06/22/2019 - 7:12am #1135201

HitsterParticipantNOP was all about Zion but they ended up with another couple of first rounders and Hayes was the highest drafted frontcourt F/C so they got in a position to take him. NAW as a combo guard gives them options around Lonzo and Holiday.
Marcos Louzada Silva has already had international experience playing for the Brazilian national team so is a solid 2nd round pick. Given the guys added from the Lakers and in the first round I could see NOP looking to stash him for a year or so.

Memphis MadnessParticipantA+
I had Ja Morant number one on my big board. Highest UPSIDE in the draft in my opinion — even higher than Zion. Ja is an electric playmaker, great passer and floor general with intangibles. As a freak athlete with a good first step he could be an explosive scorer on the next level too.
With Brandon Clarke the Grizzlies are getting one of the best defenders in the draft, really good shot blocker that could translate since he has a top notch vertical and is a fast jumper. Good rebounder. Not much range but he finishes inside. Ideal rim running target for Ja Morant. I had Clarke at 10 on my board — he could be the guy the Hawks think they are getting with DeAndre Hunter. Although both are really talented 2 way players who can defend and help out a team without being high usage.
With lots of talented guys falling, like Bol Bol going 44 winding up in Denver I think the Grizzlies should have thought about buying into the 2nd round. Oh well. We did good. Although Dylan Windler could have been a perfect wing sniper for us.
I think the Grizzlies won the draft. B+ to the Pelicans. Pelicans took the guy they were supposed to. Jaxson Hayes should help Zion on defense but Zion might have LESS spacing in New Orleans than he did at Duke. NAW looks like a serviceable role player who can do some damage at both guard spots, hitting 3’s and passing although I don’t think he has the highest upside. ZSPN has declared Mister Williamson th next Big MegaStar. Could be too early to tell. … I will give the Nuggets an A for going out and getting Bol Bol. Yes, he has downside, but SO much upside to a Jokic/Bol pairing. ‘A’ to the Pistons for getting Sekou Doumbouya. An upside guy that I had second on my big board. Those are probably the top draft grades.

Evan_MilbergParticipantIt took good discipline for the Wizards to not roll the dice on Reddish, but if he ends up being one of those guys who is a way better pro than collegian, we could end up regretting that one. For now, though, Haichimura was the safe pick and probably the right call. He fits well with our personnel and could be a solid replacement to any of our forwards that end up not getting re-signed.
I liked the move to trade into the second round for Schofield, too. Clearly the (interim) front office wants an infusion of effort and energy, and they certainly got some through the draft. If I’m nitpicking, though, I would’ve preferred them to make a move for a big like Fernando given how much value he had falling to the second round.
Overall, I’d give them a B. No home run picks or steals, but two solid guys who should make an impact.

Posted on: Fri, 06/21/2019 - 12:26pm #1135147

ZouldiersParticipantHeat: B+
Tyler Herro instantly gives us a free throw shooter we desperately needed. Apart from that, he can shoot anywhere whether off the catch or off the dribble and he’s a hardworker( requirements to the HEATCulture ) and Okpala is also a nice add as a lengthy 6’8" wing who can drive, shoot and play defense. Overall, we did great but could’ve have been better.

OhCanada-ParticipantI’ll give the Toronto Raptors a solid B. Picking at 59 your pretty much just taking a wild guess but they took a guy who they can try to develop into a role through the G-League. Dewan Hernandez was a top 25 recruit and 1st round type talent back when his name was Dewan Huell. He sat out his Junior season at Miami due to NCAA shananigans which was supposed to be his breakout year.

BlueRivers25ParticipantWarriors reached drafting SG Jordan Poole with the 28th pick. I think Poole was late 30s to mid 40s for most teams. Also it could mean 2018 1st round pick, SG Jacob Evans didnt develop they way the Warriors hoped. Wings will be a position of need next season tho.
Also why did the Warriors have to trade with NO for they’re own G league player – Alen Smailagic, of the Santa Cruz Warriors.
I do like the pick of Eric Paschall, a proven winner, short PF, that can defend, shoot.

Posted on: Fri, 06/21/2019 - 1:53pm #1135157

ChoppyParticipantNot sure what to make of the Pistons draft. Doumbouya is a year or 2 away from being a true NBA player, but has good upside. Sirvydis is a shooter, but not much else. Roby – I don’t know much about him to be honest. Looks like a typical stretch 4 type. Bone I like at the back end of the draft. Althetic, quick PG that looks after the ball well. Ideal change of pace guard. I give the Pistons a B+.
0-
Posted on: Fri, 06/21/2019 - 3:18pm #1135167

OhCanada-ParticipantI think your gonna be very happy with Sirvydis. I used to follow this guy alot. Hes a lefty. He was a big PG when he was like 16 went from 6’4 to now being 6’8 so he has a really nice handle and can pass the ball well. Hes a dead eye shooter and those Lithuanians are serious about basketball. The passion is going to be there. The two players I would compare him to are Radions Kurucs and Bogdan Bogdanovic (SAC).

ChoppyParticipantThey’re both good comps, handy players. If he turns out anything like them I’ll be very happy. I had heard we promised him with our 45th pick so we must’ve been very high on him. Might have got wind another team was sniffing around so traded up. Thanks for the background info!

HitsterParticipantAs a Suns fan I’d say C, it would have been a D but for getting Saric. We traded away TJ Warren who is a solid contributor and on a reasonable deal. He then took on Aaron Baynes’ deal from Boston who we will likely end up being bought out as he’d probably want to be on a contender. This has gifted Danny Ainge extra cap space to maybe chase D-Lo if Brooklyn get Kyrie!

Posted on: Fri, 06/21/2019 - 4:59pm #1135172
Captain LParticipantJazz B+, getting Conley is a big plus and we gave up 3 players that can be replaced without too much trouble. Korver may retire, Crowder is solid but too inconsistant, Allan is talented but not a big contributor yet and who knows if he will. The two picks are in the 20’s and that usually doesn’t amount to much.
Conley is a 20 + point scorer, great leader, good defender, just what the Jazz need. Time will tell but this year should be a good one.
0-
Posted on: Sun, 06/23/2019 - 3:10am #1135227

HitsterParticipantI feel this was a good move for both sides. Conley will be a huge help to Mitchell in the backcourt and help spread the play away from him. Plus he’ll create more openings for Gobert. Rubio was a FA and may have moved on or needed paying. Conley is a scoring upgrade on him plus a high character leader for the locker room.
Korver will likely be bought out, Crowder was a good complimentary player but wasn’t a starter, Allan is a work in progress and the picks are likely to be in 20 to 30 range.
I also liked the deal for Memphis they get a solid vet in Crowder, can sort out a buy out with Korver so save a ton of cap space so can be 3rd team in trades or take on salary dumps to get more assets. Plus maybe have a look at a solid FA, they won’t be a contender but a player would likely look at them as a place to put themselves in the shop window and their money is as good as any other teams.
Future draft picks even in the 20’s are always useful especially for a rebuilding team as it gives them options to trade up or roll the dice on an interesting prospect. They will have their own higher picks so taking a chance with a lower 2nd rounder is worth the risk.
Plus they have cleared the way for Morant to take the keys to the franchise and he can learn on the job. Having Conley there would have been great for him but he probably needs to have the ball in his hands and get as many MPG as reasonably possible under his belt.
Ironically next year’s early mocks do look PG heavy but with a likely top 10 pick Memphis can probably get a shot at one of Edwards, Stewart, Wiseman, Hayes, Bassey etc.

high floorParticipantOkeke was the biggest reason Auburn made a run to the final 4. He exhibits a nice feel for the game, can shoot it, has good physical tools, and just seems to be the type of guy teams covet in the modern game. Switchy, good range, smart.
I’m not worried about his ACL impacting his long term prospects. Orlando can take their time with him, and integrate him with regular minutes when his knee is ready.
Good pick up.

royk927ParticipantLangford, Williams, Edwards, and Waters are guys that you could see excelling running alongside Tatum. Williams is a guy that I was high on he’s a hopper. Langford questions remain about his shooting but I think he’s somewhere in between his injured self at Indiana and what made him a top prospect in high school. Edwards is a microwave scorer and pairing him with smart could be entertains though he is lacking in the creating for others part in his game. Waters was really the only pick I wasn’t high on but drafting that late it’s a risk anyway.

While Roby probably won’t be a big contributor in the NBA, turning one 2nd rounder into three by moving down 8 spots is pretty darn good.

kobyzParticipant#19 samanic – raw prospect but seems to have intrigued tool set and someone able to develop into nice modern streach 4, didn’t saw much different between him and Sekou Doumbouya who went #15…
#29 Johnson – seems like a no brainier at that spot and a good chance to become a solid two way player, like him more as a wing prospect than Lonnie Walker who we got #18 last year…
#49 Weatherspoon – seams like a polish combo guard, not much upside, but someone who could become a rotation player and maybe to replace Bryn Forbes if we decided not to keep him…

Kinda upset they couldn’t make a move for the Pelicans pick at #4 but in the end they didnt have enough ammo, compared to ATL.
I like Coby White’s change of pace ability on this team and hopefully Coach Boylen loosens up the reins and lets these players run. He’s also insurance for any possible injuries to either Lavine or Dunn. All the shooters on the team matched with his driving ability is going to be deadly. I can see the Bulls grabbing a 7 or 8 seed next year if everyone stays healthy.
Gafford was a really good pick too, he brings a higher level of athleticism and aggressiveness to the frontcourt of Carter and Lauri. If he can learn to stay out of foul trouble he could be something like Derrick Favors
But hands down, ATL won this draft. I’m becoming a fan of this team, and Schlenk as a GM. He’s not afraid to go after who he likes but still makes smart moves. Their offense is going to be potent and their defense just got a lot better. Go Hawks
