thegift1236ParticipantI think two biggest ones are Jrue Holliday, and Evans, the other freshman Derozan and Mullins have athleticism and size to their advantage, but its seems Jrue and Evans are looked at with a kind of on a Rose, Westbrook upside, who where both freak athletes. Jrue much more so than Evans, Derozan came on at the end of the year, and its hard to say if Mullins is just another athletic center that can’t produce since he didn’t prove it in college. Without the high school their wouldn’t really be as good of a gauge for potential.

JNixonParticipantI know for a fact if I had never heard of Jrue Holiday before the season he would be as irrelevent as someone walking down the street. Also BJ Mullin would be irrelevant, but I would think he could develop because he has the size. Derozen too, he is also isnt that impressive too me. I honestly think Eric Maynor is overrated too, but he got hyoed from hitting a game winner against the evil villians (Duke) and he was far more productive than Holiday, Mullin, and Derozen

xbadgerhustlerParticipantjosh…. we ALL understand that you’re not going to buy into a guy that you haven’t ever seen explode in college… Using you logic, you would never have selected… Kevin Garnett, Kobe Bryant, Amare Stoudemire, J.R./Josh Smith, Monta Ellis, etc…. you get the gist. the draft is about seeing into the future. granted, the past is at least some indication into the future, the future will not be exactly like the past… if your point is that average fans are not very good at predicting the future NBA potential of players, than that’s fine. but, when all the GMs/scouts (experts) and buzz around the draft say that someone has the potential to be good in the future, that’s worth something IMO. WHO CARES WHAT THE AVERAGE FAN THINKS OF A PLAYER. THE AVERAGE FAN PROBABLY THOUGHT THAT ADAM MORRISON WOULD BE REALLY GOOD…
Using your argument, no one would have been able to predict that Demar DeRozan would have a great Pac-10/NCAA tourney because he hadn’t shown you anything like that before. just because you haven’t seen someone reach their potential, doesn’t mean that they won’t ever meet their potential. Demar would still have been a lotto pick even if he wouldn’t have splurged at the end of the year. He always had the potential, he just final came into his own towards the end of the season… The same goes for Jrue, we’re all just waiting for him to come into his own. If you don’t want to take that chance, that’s fine.
