The Miami Heat have reinforced most positions on their roster, they could stand to sign a cheap veteran point guard, but most importantly i think they need a big defensive centre. the two best options i identified were Brendan Haywood and Darko Milicic and since Haywood signed with the Charlotte Bobcats Darko seems like the best option available.

He’s Big (7’0" 275lbs) and can block shots, play solid one-on-one post defense and can clean up a bit at the rim. His rebounding isn’t as good as some other options but he’s not awful and with Bron, Bosh & Wade getting the boards they do it won’t matter as much. He also seems more mobile and willing to run than other centre options available which fits with Miami’s style.

He won’t be expected to do much and will only be in the lineup when Miami goes more traditional, which is rarely, but he would be an upgrade on all other centres on the roster (Pitman, Anthony, Curry) and would give size that Haslem and Turiaf just don’t.

So tell me what you think, are there any centres you view as better options for a cheap signing?

Darko will love Miami and its nightlife…….He can block shots and basically thats all they need from him. He might be more motivated to play well, playing for a championship (he actually already has a ring with the pistons)

They would have the #1,2,4,5 pick from the 04 draft !

Darko was the most infuriating player on the Wolves- and on a team with Michael Beasley, Anthony Randolph, and Wes Johnson, that’s saying a lot. He’d have one game where he’d absolutely go off and put up like 17 and 14 with 5 blocks, then do absolutely nothing the next 3 games.

That all said, I think he’d be a great fit for the Heat if he accepted less money to play for them. Their main missing piece is a legit 5, and he can be when he wants to be. He’s also a good shot blocker and a decent man defender. They should go for it.

I’ve liked what I’ve seen from Dexter Pittman thus far, I think the Heat are waiting to see how he pans out the rest of summer league before making any decisions

Dexter Pittman doesn’t have the same defensive ability as Darko at the moment, and i’ve been disappointed by his rebounding, but i can understand why they want to assess his summer league performances, he’s one BIG dude

Dexter Pittman can push around smaller players. In the NBA he was not very effective

To start with, the front court is going to be pretty impressive. Chris Kaman and Elton Brand played together as members of the Los Angeles Clippers, and Kaman has played with Dirk Nowitzki on the German national team, as well.

“That’s the role I’ve had throughout my career and it’s something I take pride in,” said Jones. “My role is primarily to play defense, to play hard, but also to knock down open shots and to be an all-around player. There are lots of guys here who will lead the team in scoring, but my job is to come in and change the tempo of the game and make it hard for the other team and I enjoy that role.”

Can this team compete with the Los Angeles Lakers and Oklahoma City Thunder in a Western Conference that looks poised to pass the 2011 NBA champs by?

“We had a chance to jump in there but he wasn’t the right fit for our team given the circumstances and the pieces that needed to go in and out,” Colangelo said. “His contract with one year of permanency and one year where he could opt out was too much risk given that we were unloading several current and future assets.”

Portland Trail Blazers guard Elliot Williams will require surgery to repair his torn left Achilles tendon after injuring it during a voluntary workout at the team’s practice facility.

fasIndeed, it is. And with a group as motivated and with as much experience as this new-look Mavs team will have, anything can happen.rw
