It looks like the Atlanta Hawks are primed to make a trade into the top 5 so they can select Jarrett Culver. I doubt L.A. is interested in trading their pick for a selection of lower picks considering they are in the running for either Bradley Beal or Anthony Davis.

The two teams that make the most sense to make a trade with are New York and Cleveland. New York are reportedly very keen on Cam Reddish and I wouldn’t be surprised if Reddish is available down at pick 8 for them. The only way I see this deal going through is if they are sure they wont land Davis. With Cleveland, this makes a whole ton of sense. It gives them more opportunities to land a stud. Although, Atlanta would be risking L.A. potentially taking Culver so if they do this it would have to be a draft day trade.

Cleveland is in full rebuild mode and the gap between 5 and 10 is slim. Unless Cleveland is in love with someone at 5, trade the pick for 8 and 10 and take the best available. Second tier guys are Hunter, Culver, Garland, White, and Reddish, so take whoever is left at 8 then 10 is house money. Could be a win win if Atlanta loves a guy at 5.

    I am all for a #5 for #8 and 10 deal. However I am pumping the brakes on a #8 + #17 deal.

Pretty positive the Hawks arent gonna trade 8 and 10 for 5. It would be 10, 17, and something else. So I guess we will see. Also why would Schlenk let everyone know he wants Culver? It would just drive the price up. I trust Schlenk though so will give him benefit of the doubt

Why are we trading up for Culver? I think he’s a fine player, but I’m just really confused why anyone would trade up to grab him.

I‘m still going to say it’s very possible that he’s available at 8 – so why trade up? This has to be some sort of smoke screen. If not, Schlenk is a moron to let it be leaked how infatuated with Culver he is. The thing I loved about Dallas last year is they really kept it on the low just how much they liked Luka Doncic.

    But it’s Atlanta so…

      Very possibly?
He’s not falling past NYK, LAL, CLE, PHX and CHI
Apparently New York is considering him over Barrett, L.A is very impressed with him following a private workout and Phoenix is higher on him than they are White or Garland.

I’m not really sold on him or Hunter – just my personal opinion.

So on my big board, he’d be available. I know Reddish wasn’t blowing people away, but to me he looked like a superior player to Culver and Hunter with a much better skill set.

I can see saying I like Reddish more long-term for his upside, he has a very high upside. Yet much better skill set than Culver? The only thing he did better was shooting and that was rather close. Culver showed a ton more skill in like every facet of the game. Reddish showed you so little, he basically just took three point shots all season. Like Culver could still be a really good player even if he can’t shot that well, Reddish not so much. Like can Reddish create for himself and others? We didn’t see that at all, Culver was the #1 guy on a very good team. I just don’t see this skill set your talking about, Reddish is more upside athlete. I see some Donovan Mitchell and Dwayne Wade in Culver’s game.

I see neither Mitchell or Wade in Culver’s game. I think his jumpshot needs a lot of work – it’s not as fluid as it could be.

Culver has less craft and scoring moves than Reddish does in my opinion. Watching a ton of both of them, I thought Culver has so many line drives to the basket where he’d throw something. I don’t see that being successful at the next level. Reddish is a craftier finisher around the basket with a much smoother jumper.

Reddish played the role he was given at Duke. If given the same opportunity at Texas Tech, I personally believe he’d be able to at the very least equal what Culver did.

Culver reminds me of a young Fresno St. Paul George. Not sure if he decides to work as hard as PG and become that good but he reminds me of him as a prospect.

Well Culver is probably their guy so they wanna secure him. They got all those picks and cant bring in 6 rookies. Its probably not Atlanta leaking it, its probably Cleveland. I thought this would happen. Because…"But it’s Atlanta so…".

Last year with young. There were numerous reports that Atlanta was high on young. While most wanted either Jackson luka or bamba.  We would up taking him but used the knowledge that Dallas was high on him ( it wasn’t a secret that they thought highly of Doncic) so all along Schlenk got who he wanted while getting the tenth pick this year. Also was said ownership wanted Doncic but he sold them on trae. I don’t think the trade the 8 and ten to move up though even if they are high on culver and  even reddish.

Then ownership was right. Whenever you trade the ROY who was almost an all star, I’m not sure how that’s a good move. Yes you get the 10th pick — in a draft that has considerable talent drop outside of the top 3.

If Hawks wanted to get into the top 5, it would probably take 8 and 10 to do it. 8 and 17 might get you to 5th if the Cavs didn’t think there was a big drop off between 5 and 8.

Ironically I think that if the Lakers would put 4th pick into play they might well do that to get 8th and 10th. In any AD trade the Pelicans would want picks and they might think they can do more with 8th and 10th than with 4th and Hawks could move Crabbe who would then be used by Lakers to balance out salaries in any trade.

RJ seems locked to go to Knicks but who knows what their front office might do so they could well look at 8 and 10 especially if Reddish was still on board then and take a big with 10.

Atlanta seem pretty happy and invested with Huerter at the 2. It doesn’t seem like the fit for Phoenix either with Booker, Bridges, Jackson and Warren already on board. New York have had Barrett drop in their lap and Garland looks as close as anyone to Lebron and LA.

Culver must undoubtedly be doing well in his sessions but I’m not sold on this draft day noise about New York, LA, PHX and ATL all over him. There seems to be a lot of people hanging on one and two line quotes on this at this stage cos there is very little other news out there.

I think Cleveland at 5 is a good fit. If anyone from 4 on is offered 8 & 10 to move down they should snatch it.

In other news, apparently Herro  hit 80/100 threes in a workout with Boston, Jerome then hit 84/100 and they love both of them.

Now that I’ve written the above posts, I see there’s been talk of Cleveland wanting Barrett at 3. If we take the rumour of New York wanting Reddish and Atlanta wanting Culver, then maybe it all works out –

New York trades #3 to Cleveland for #5, #26 and a future first

    Cleveland takes Barrett

New York trades #5 to Atlanta for #8 and #10

Atlanta takes Culver, still has #17

New York takes #Reddish at #8, still has #10, #26 and a future Cavs first

I don’t believe this will happen, but it’s as plausible as anything else

If I’m the Pelicans and i get #4 from the Lakers, I’m definitely trading down – possibly more than once. Best fits around Zion are later on in the draft – I’d love to pair him with guys like Clarke, Hachimura, Thybulle, Cam Johnson or Chuma Okeke. Imagine a lineup of Holiday/Thybulle/Johnson/Zion/Clarke, or replace Clarke with Hachimura if they want to go small…would be a top 10 defense very quickly!
