Brandon Clarke to… Phoenix?

Too high… and by that I mean the Phoenix staff are too high for daily life if they take him at 6

 Trade down perhaps…to Minny?

 I wouldn’t take him..Trade the pick and Josh Jackson  to Cleveland for their pick..they need Garland…

 I don’t think Clarke is anything more than an energy guy off the bench at the next level. I think he can be useful as a defender but I don’t see his shot blocking at the collegiate level translating to the nba. He’s very limited offensively. Not skilled enough to play on the wing and not really strong enough to play the 5 (which is almost essential for non-shooters in today’s league). Unless you think he has significant untapped potential as a shooter and overall offensive player, there is absolutely no way I would touch him anywhere near the lottery. 

 To only Zion last year. Clarke does it all besides shooting. Great defender like 4.5 blocks and steals per game last year, good passer, good rebounder, plays team ball, great effort player and a truly elite athlete. I have his floor as a better Larry Nance Jr., which is a fairly high floor. He’s a lot better with the ball than Nance, like he can actually drive and score. He’s not just a rim runner. The guy could be close to all-star level if he keeps improving his shooting and bulks up a little bit.

That being said, how does he fits the Sun’s with Ayton? That’s almost as bad as pairing Simmons and Embiid. In today’s NBA it’s hard to play more than one non-shooter and you certainly don’t want two bigs clogging the paint. Plus you’d pass on riskier players, but higher upside guys that fit a lot better.

If I’m the Sun’s and want a PF, go get Okeke. Yes he’s injured, but he’s a perfect fit next to Ayton. Good D, all around game and he can shoot it well. If he wasn’t injured he might be a lottery pick. A lot of Draymond Green to his game and he just kept getting better until the injury. Play the long game!

1. They feel confident in signing a pg, ie. Russel or Rozier

2. They traded down from #6. Not thinking too much right now for the other teams, but Phx should at the least grab a second rounder, or two, to swap firsts with any team picking a few picks after them.

Clarke to suns at 6 could happen. After watching highlights I have Doumboya at 6. Let’s be realistic, how many superstars come out of a draft? Coby White looks like the next Mathew Dellabadova. And Garland only played in 5 NCAA games.  

 Brandon Clarke may end up fine but I’ll be shocked if he’s a starting PF or center at 6’8 210. He’s like Shaun Livingston’s build. Good luck with Embiid and the other  huge units. If he’s never projected to be a starter, quite seriously what are Phoenix doing, tanking already?! 

 +1 to the new guy for suggesting 6 for 10 and 17 via the Hawks and welcone to the forum too.

6 would be a huge reach for Clarke as there are 8 bigger guys who can play front court between 6 and his current position at 20 on this site’s mock.

He might be a good defensive PF and could play some smallball C when Ayton is on the bench but he’s not realistically a top 10 guy IMO. What is his upside something like Ibaka, what is he at the moment – a better all round version of Jarvis Varnado.

If the Suns do like him then maybe give Boston a call to see what Ainge would offer for 6th to get a package including 14th pick to take Clarke there.

I have Sekou Doumbouya top 5 — ok, more like top 3, so he should obviously be in the discussion at 6. Maybe they can trade down with the Hawks.  8/10 might not be something the Suns can pull off but 10/17 would work (although Sekou might not be there at 10).  

At 10/17 the Suns could get Clarke to pair with Ayton inside.  At 17, what about taking a flyer on a high-flying Jalen Lecque?  Neither of those guys can really shoot it with range but both are bouncy, high energy, and fun to watch. More importantly, they complement the Booker-Ayton-Bridges trio.  At 32, go get a shooter. If they don’t think Dylan Windler won’t be there then take him at 17 (or Herro?). Then go with Lecque at 32.  Those 3 would help complete the Suns’ young core.  

Clarke/Ayton would be an effective/fun big man combo. Lecque can’t shoot but he can get to the rim and pass.  I can see Windler being one of the best "sleepers" in the draft.
