halfdecayedParticipantJust reported by Woj. He accepted a 3 year deal and Jason Kidd will be one of his assistants. I thought he did a good job in indiana and if not for the Heat he would have made a couple of finals.

IndianaBasketballParticipantFrank Vogel isn’t the “sexy” choice, but this is a very good hire IMO . . .
#1 – He’ll have LeBron’s respect as well as the respect of the other vets
#2 – A lot depends on personnel, but he’s an excellent defensive coach
# 3 – He’s good at developing young talent and just building rapport with young players
Offensively, I think he’ll give LeBron freedom and just stay out of his way. Hopefully, the Lakers get more shooters.

CoachWyersParticipantGood hire he was the #2 guy I wanted behind Ty Lue out of the guys that were serious candidates for the Lakers job. Vogel is a good defensive coach and Jason Kidd will be a good lead assistant for him if he doesn’t undermine him. Kidd is the perfect mentor for Lonzo Ball, is good at player development, and he was always good at exploiting mismatches on the offensive end as a coach which compliments Vogel’s defensive strength.

IndianaBasketballParticipantI think Vogel will get along with Kidd. That’s another great thing about Vogel . . . He has no issues leaning on his assistants and working with a stacked staff.

MopgrassParticipantI liked Monty, but I like this better than Lue. I do think defense is hardest thing to get players to do. They usually are willing to work on offense all day long.
Vogel did pretty well with the Pacers and had a tragic team when he coached the Magic.
Solid pick. Not inspiring, but solid.
I like that they didn’t get a LeBron guy. Let the coaches coach the team. That’s why they created a whole job for it.

HitsterParticipantVogel and Kidd are a solid pairing and they should be able to get a better defensive performance out of the teams and get the guys to pull together around LBJ which should keep LBJ happy.
If Kidd, Vogel and LBJ start having differing opinions plus throw in if they landed a top FA who may have opinions, I believe they still have to appoint someone to Magic’s old job too.
I agree that Kidd should really be able to help Lonzo Ball along and if they get the support cast pulling their weight, this makes life easier for LBJ and thus he is happier.

CoachWyersParticipantThey have said they are not going to hire someone in Magic’s old job Rob Pelinka will be running the show with Kurt Rambis having more power in basketball decisions.
