    The Minnesota Timberwolves are hiring Houston’s former EVP of Basketball Ops Gersson Rosas as their new President of Basketball Operations. He was also a leading candidate for the Wizards GM opening. It’ll be interesting to see how he handles the roster coming from Houston with an analytics heavy background.

    I wouldn’t expect to see Thibs vet Timberbulls holdovers like Rose, Deng, or Gibson back. He’ll probably shop Dieng and probably Wiggins too.

    Both the Dieng & Wiggins contracts are completely and utterely un-movable unfortunately.

    I always thought that Billups would be more a Coaching than an FO guy given that he was a very good leader and had a good basketball IQ. I’m sure that he’d do well in an FO role too but he might need to have a run in a lesser role before getting a Team Presidency. He’d be a good GM reporting to a Team President but maybe not have total control yet.

    I was always surprised he never got a role with Detroit when he retired as he was a legend there and knew the team inside out.

     As a Wolves fan, I’m not sure why Billups was in the running. I’m glad they went with the guy who has had experience in the job. Everyone hates on Wiggins, and I get the criticism, but it’s not like he’s an unproductive player. As a fan we see the possible player he could be, and it’s frustrating that he’s so inconsistant in his effort. Dieng actullay played well, when they let him have regular minutes late in the season. I think Thibs kind of derailed Dieng.

    The dynamic between Team President, GM and Head Coach is always an interesting one. Even that between the owner and the Team President. Does the owner go hands on with coaching choices or allow Team President total control over that. Does Head Coach outrank GM or vice versa, can GM make trades without it being signed off by Team President or agreed by HC etc.?

    A team like Philly 76ers for example their President Chris Heck oversees a lot of the content, marketing, sponsorship, branding etc of the team and leaves the basketball decisions to Elton Brand as GM and Brett Brown as HC.

      Wolves dynamic/organizational structure is different than Philly. Not sure why GT insists on calling the top decision maker the President of Basketball Operations…Rosas is now the final decision maker on every and all basketball moves. The GM Scott Layden has holds no power in making any basketball decisions.
