Well that’s the end of our season, it went out with a fizzle. Tough to compete without our best player, but that Celtics team is starting to click. Still we fought hard after Vic went out, but next season we could (I hope) be a different looking team.

Thad Young, Bogdanovic, Collison, Joseph, Evans, Matthews & O’Quinn all hit free agency. Bogdanovic is the only one that I truly want to see back, Young is awesome but McMillan uses him as a security blanket & that’d mean another year of not seeing if the Turner/Sabonis combo has any potential.

Our core guys are Vic (26yrs old), Myles (23yrs old) & Domas (22yrs old). Not too mention we have some decent young guys in TJ (21yrs old), Aaron Holiday (22yrs old) & Edmond Sumner (23yrs old) who have done plenty to prove they can play in this league & deserve an opportunity to grow. I would have no issue if our front office went a little younger & built to compete in 2-3yrs when Vic hits that key stretch. (Young – 31, Bogdanovic – 30, Collison – 32, Evans – 30 don’t really fit that timeline)

Nate M. is the frontrunner for COY in my opinion. The Pacers post Vic are the biggest surpirse this year other than my Kings (terrible finish). What a fantastic season regardless of the sweep.

With that being said, I’d hate to see them overpay for any of those guys hitting FA. Bogdonavic did a great job filling Oladipo’s shoes, but do you really want to pay him $18-19M+ per season? I could see a team offering that kind of money.

Indiana isn’t a FA destination though so maybe it makes sense to overpay for your homegrown guys that already have the chemistry and track record.

@ festar, what does your ideal Pacers’ offseason look like?

  The Pacers went 16-19 from when Victor got injured & the only teams they beat woth a record over .500 was OKC & Denver. If we played the season at that rate we would not be a playoff team, so that start to our season was huge.
  
  Ideal offseason to me would be pretty simple:
  #1a: Sign Kemba Walker or
  #1b: Get Jrue Holiday without giving up Myles or Domas
  #2: Re-sign Bogdanovic & Young
  
  Essentially run it back with an All-Star PG on the roster & a healthy Oladipo.

    there is no way you’re getting Holliday without coughing up one of Turner or Sabonis. I like Domatas…. but if David Griffin of the Pelicans called and offered Jrue for Sabonis and just 1 future first rounder I would want to do that deal. Holliday is that good, and I’ll never get over how he bottled up 2017-18 1st team all-nba selection Damian Lillard in that first round sweep last year. He’s also under contract for three more years. Huge value for an elite 2-way player in his prime.
    
    Jrue would be a fantastic fit on this team and a potentially devestating combo with Oladipo. If they’re goal is to make noise in the playoffs the next couple years IMO they will need to make a risky deal like that.

      I agree, but the question was what my ideal offseason would be & that would be it.
      
      Holiday would be a perfect fit given he is a two-way player with very nice size being able to guard either PG or SG.

Even as a Raptors fan and Celtics hater Boston should be considered favorites out East and the way they handled Indiana should not be an afterthought. This team has the most chemistry, the most depth and experience. I think they beat Milwaukee in 6.

I’d think that Pacers would want to keep Thad Young but they should really look at Turner and Sabonis as a starting unit and see if they can play together or not.

  If Indiana goes to a Sabonis/Turner 4/5, then they can’t re-sign Bojan because they need someone who can guard the big wings like Leonard and Giannis. Frankly, it will be difficult to find that replacement without breaking the bank. I think the Pacers are going to be one of the more interesting teams to follow this off-season. Making a run at Kemba with the expiring money from Collison and Joseph makes all the sense in the world. It might not happen, but it is worth the effort. Reworking the frontcourt is going to be a real challenge. Bojan and Young were both really good this year. Can they afford to keep them, and be aggressive in improving the point? Conversely, can they retain their identity and chemistry if they don’t?

    This is my concern about going big at the 4/5 spot.
    
    If we did do this then I would want us going extremely aggressively after Khris Middleton & leaving the PG spot as a secondary upgrade.

Holiday should be better in his sophomore season . Maybe the Pacers take a chance on Lecque,a high risk high reward player. A sleeper I think alot folks r underestimating is Ty Jerome.

  I got Ty Jerome going to Indy as I think he would be a great fit beside Dipo if Holliday doesn’t secure the starting PG spot.

as others pointed out, pacers are not a FA destination so this team will always be average to really good, but not good enough to win titles. The best you’ll ever see is the Ric Smits/Reggie Miller days in the 90s. They’re a fun team and very competitive but nobody wants to go there and play.

  To be fair we had 2 Championship caliber teams since then, but they both completely imploded on themselves I wouldn’t say never.
  
  2003-04 – Malice in Palace ruined any chance we had, but that was an insanel y talented team.
  
  2013-14 – This team started to believe their own hype & especially fell to pieces when Danny Granger got sent out by the front office.
  
  I agree we are not a FA destination so I think the trade market is our best bet at getting more talent or paying a little more $ to secure someone. Still we are a winning franchise & that may not help with the elites, but that next class of talent will have to look.

    Malice in the Palace was in 04-05 season but yeah. 03-04 is when they won 60 games. That ’14 Pacer team was great until Roy Hibbert starts playing like Kwame Brown.

      Yeah & that happened when Andrew Bynum got brought in which just crushed Hibbert’s confidence, that whole season was really on the front office in terms of how it ended.

  I find it hard to say Pacers will never be considered cntenders when Milwaukee and Toronto are currently contenders out East and Golden State/Oakland have won 3 of the last 4 titles. Golden State used to be the biggest gimmick basketball in the league.

If the Pacers do make a run for a max level FA, they have to factor in the renewal of Sabonis which they can offer to him this summer. If we consider that Turner got $18 million a year then Sabonis would likely be in that ballpark figure. Lets say his deal starts at $15 million then that is over $60 million of cap space on Turner, McDermott, Oladipo and Sabonis for 20-21 season and Oladipo would be on for a mega deal in a couple of summers.

If there still persists the issue of playing Turner and Sabonis in tandem then maybe they need to look at what offers they can get for Sabonis this summer as his value whilst on a rookie deal and RFA rights would be a nice trading piece.

It was frustrating watching the Pacers fall apart offensively in the 3rd and 4th quarters of almost every game, but they had no business being close to the Celtics. Player for player the talent gap was too big. Even with Oladipo that’s prob a 6 game series max.

The #1 priority for the Pacers this summer should be getting an All-Star to pair with Oladipo. As good as Bogie and Young have been, they’re not All-Stars. I hope they return, but I don’t think the Pacers should break the bank for them.

I keep waiting for turner to take it to the next level but I honestly think this is as good as he is going to be. He’s not a building block and no way I would have overpaid him to stay…………

  Turner is definitely a building block. He’s an elite shot blocker/rim protector who can spread the floor. Those guys are hard to find.
  
  He’ll never be LaMarcus Aldridge offensively, but I still think he has room to grow there. Defensively, he’s a stud already.
