Sleeper free agent destination team this offseason

There is a ton of chatter about the Knicks, Lakers, Clippers, Nets, and to a lesser degree even the Hawks as it relates to possible free agent destinations this offseason. 

One team that is not being talked about a ton is the Mavs. There is a big question mark surrounding KP and how he’s recovered from his ACL tear, but when training camp begins he will have had almost 18 months to recover. How does a 7’3 guy recover from a serious knee injury though?? Tough to speculate.

There are a couple players that would be interesting fits with the Mavs. The first is Kemba Walker. I feel Kemba would form an outstanding triumvirate with KP and Luka. That’s a lot of scoring, playmaking, and versatility on offense. If Kemba does in fact decide that he wants out of Charlotte, I think Dallas makes quite a bit of sense for him. Carlisle hasn’t had a veteran, pure scoring guard with Kemba’s chops in a long time…… and I think Rick would be an outstanding coach for this next phase of Walker’s career. 

Another interesting option is Julius Randle. I feel Randle had an underrated season this year, and makes for an interesting compliment to a healthy KP. Randle is from the Dallas area, and if the Mavs throw a 3-year deal at him I think he would strongly consider joining up with them. It’s not crazy to think that Dallas could bring both him and Kemba on together.

Maybe Dallas shows interest in Jimmy Butler too, but that situation is way too fluid to predict on both sides. Would Dallas risk adding Jimmy from a culture / injury history standpoint? Does Jimmy want to be in Dallas? I think if Dallas offered Butler a max that he would definitely listen. But still, he’s a distant third o this list.

So yea, I feel strongly about the potential Kemba fit with Dallas. Thoughts?
