You’re going to be losing for the next few years, so rotation doesn’t matter as much when you arn’t in a position to win games. Take Ja, play him some on the ball, some off. Make him learn to play both ways. Same with Colin.

If one of them blows up in the next 2-3 years, trade the other. Or keep both and make the one who didn’t blow up play off the ball. 

 If the Cavs have the #2 pick and isn’t sold on RJ they should swap with someone like Atlanta did last year and get a future pick and stay in the lottery..Not sure a Ja and Sexton backcourt works. 

to me, i think rj barrett is the no brainer pick if he’s available.  if cavs were top 3 and barrett and zion are both gone, i’d look at trade back scenarios.  chicago has a real need at pg and i could see a doncic/trae young type deal happening where chicago would jump up for ja and move a 2020 1st in the process.  

cleveland can add a culver, reddish or hunter who all fit a need and then possibly add another lotto pick in 2020.  chicago would basically have a nucleus of carter, lauri, porter, lavine and ja with felicio, hutchinson, valentine and dunn off the bench and about $30M to add depth.  

If Sexton has to come off the bench, it might not be a bad thing. Jordan Clarkson will be going into the last year of his deal, and is a candidate to be moved. Whether the Cavs favor Morant or Barrett, they need the ball to be in their best position to succeed. Neither are great shooters. Even if Cleveland is enamored with DeAndre Hunter, and their scouts are the ones pushing the Kawhi Leonard comparisons, he is someone who needs a point guard to get him the ball. He seems to the be the type who could get lost on a team where the ball sticks to the ballhandlers. Add to this that Kevin Love has been someone who is assisted on 70+ percent of his field goals for the past five years. Larry Nance has generally been in the 70 percent range. Cedi Osman has been in the 60+ range. I generally think Morant would make more sense if they are lucky enough to land at #2 because, while he has thrown the ball around, he will help facilitate for the other players with whom Cleveland are the most invested. If that means Sexton has more freedom to play as he feels with the 2s, maybe partnering with Dellavedova to keep him from getting too wild, I think it best serves the most people involved. Another thing to consider, if/when Anthony Davis is moved, Jrue Holiday will be the next domino to drop. With all the expiring contracts, Sexton, and the second first rounder, they might be able to accelerate their rebuild. If not Holiday, Miami is clearly fallen out with Hassan Whiteside. Given that they will still want to be players in 2020 free agency, expiring contracts and an inexpensive rookie scale player (or that second first rounder) might be enough to turn their expiring contracts into an expiring contract they might want to get a longer look at to see if they want to keep him (though there should always be a warning sign when considering Hassan Whiteside on anything but a prove it year deal).

The knock on him is he’s a chucker and doesn’t shoot well enough, but he has good enough mechanics and shooting can be vastly improved, unlike athleticism and killer instinct. He did miss shots late in games, but he isn’t afraid to take the shots.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t remember Harden being known as a good shooter at first, he was a good scorer, like RJ. RJ seems to have the work ethic and he is only going to improve, and he could be a defensive stopper. All-star probably not a superstar.

 Harden has actually had some pretty bad 3-point shooting performances in the playoffs, shooting under 30 percent several years.

It’s the one area that can be improved if a player works on it … there are endless examples of this, I mean look no further than Brook Lopez, from a guy who literally never shot them to a go who basically only shoots them.

Harden is obviously a guy who loves the game and loves to play. I mean to me, he’s a guy who if he wasn’t in the league would be playing at the rec center or the Y. There are a lot of guys like that in the league and those guys naturally get better with time.

Then there are guys who I think if they weren’t in the NBA would probably never play just to play. And those are the guys that worry me when it comes to improvement.

 I may be the first who say this but I feel ja is being overrated, i have worries about his fragile frame and how is game translate, it’s hard to judge a mid major prospect but I don’t think he’s as good of prospect as DeAndre Fox… I would not skip on RJ for him if I’m the cavs…

 Sexton only averaged 3apg across the regular season so could there be an option to draft Morant and play Sexton off ball with Clarkson possibly moving to 3 as a lot of teams now play a 3 guard line up. If they draft RJ then he’d logically play at 3 so it would just mean a bit of repositioning if they drafted Morant. 

There would be 96 minutes across the back court so Sexton and Morant would both get time to handle the ball.

Also there is no way they pass on Zion but he is likely a PF which is K-Love’s position.

If Cavs land 2nd pick and a team like the Suns were at 3 then I’m sure the Cavs coulde extract an asset or two as the Suns would likely be very keen on Morant and the Cavs could easily than have Barrett.
