    I was just reading “Bad as I wanna be” and wow…the way Rodman grew up and became an NBA player is amazing.

    He was a 5’11 skinny awkward kid who never played high school ball. A year after high school he grew to 6’8, walked on to a junior college team and somehow got drafted.

    What amazes me is…as much as we analyze players now adays…how could Rodman accomplish what seems like an impossible task? I know he did grunt work and that is what made him such a great player, but that is still no guarantee that you will be an nba player.

    Every basketball star today has been followed and analyzed since they were in middle school. It seems like that if you aren’t ranked as one of the top 100 high school prodigies, then you most likely wont go to the NBA. How did Rodman make his way after never playing basketball until his 20’s? And if he was that age around present day could he do it again?

    Yea Im not exactly sure but I will say one thing Rodman’s story is pretty inspiring to be honest, despite all his off the court antics i have to say he seems liek a genuinely good guy and one thing is undisputable he worked his butt off to get to where he got…nothing was handed to him on a silver platter like it is to a lot of these young stars nowadays.

    thats a good question and this deserves to be in the NBA forum.

    As much as i liked Rodmans game, when you look at his story there is probably no way he could make the league these days(especially not through the draft) without spending some time in Europe or in the NBADL. With the way the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament gets ignored by the NBA(ask Jerome Randle, who was the MVP of the Portsmouth Invitational and was not invited to the combine) and how the NBA has destroyed the good thing they had going with the NBA Draft Camp as far as giving the lesser known players a chance to play in front of scouts, it would be damn near impossible to get drafted, unless, like you said Whh3310 , he was a top 100 prospect before he went down to JUCO. I think the last JUCO player to even get drafted was Donta Smith and that was way back in 2004 or 05.

    Yeah, guys who are drafted straight from JUCO haven’t really panned out. Kedrick Brown, Qyntel Woods, and Donta Smith are the only names I could think of right off the top of my head, and each of them were busts. Nowadays, he’d probably have to transfer to a high-major D-1 school and prove himself there.
