bt102ParticipantI don’t think Precious is the answer besides I don’t think he is a first round talent. He was abysmal with efficiency and plays like a wing when he can’t shoot. They can get a guy with size in FA. The simple fact is that they don’t really need this pick. I think they could trade up but if they stay here, it is Aleksej Pokusevski. He has MVP upside as a Point Center that can bomb 3’s and handle the ball. It’s unlikely he gets there but Boston has the time to develop him.

OhCanada-ParticipantI like Pokusevski just not this high. I think he will be an interesting offensive weapon in the right role but but he projects as a liability defensively which will limit his ability to stay on the floor. His weight is apparently under 200 pounds and I can’t recall a 7 footer that weighs under 200 pounds ever having success in the league, correct me if I’m wrong. What position does he defend where he isn’t getting constantly attacked?
Offensively though I do like him. I think he is an excellent change of pace big for when defensive rebounding isn’t a priority. This should get him picked in the 1st round and maybe even in the lottery as you guys are suggesting. But if you have a low post threat out there you can’t match him up there. If you have a decent iso forward out there you can’t match him up there. You’ll have to constantly hide him on a shooter and still you gotta ask how well is he gonna slip screens and how quickly can he react to playing tag out there.
And all of this is in theory. Before we can see if any of this can be taught he has to gain at the very least 15 pounds (assuming hes gotten up to 205’ish) and he has to be able to actually produce and play at a decent level. Everything we know about this guy is off of YouTube highlights and I just don’t see teams drafting in the lottery based off of YouTube highlights of a 11 game stretch in the Greek B league.
Thats my take on Poku. I like him in 18-35 range. I am curious to hear your takes on Pokusevski though and how you guys see him ultimately developing in the NBA.

dmo21ParticipantThe thing with Pokusevski is that you’re not drafting him for what he is right now. This is a huge swing for the fences, untapped potential, boom or bust type pick. I like Boston doing this as they don’t really need a contributor right now. They have their starting 5 right now and will be a playoff team next year. Yes, they need some bench pieces. But that’s when their 2 other first rounders come in where they can take some more experienced, veteran guys to fill those needs. Plus, in a weak draft like this it makes more sense to swing for the fences because if you fail, it’s probably not a huge fail.
Just my take on taking Poku here.

RUDEBOY-ParticipantPoku is my choice..

OhCanada-ParticipantSaw that too. I think that promise could also be with Toronto or LA.

bt102ParticipantI’m a Jazz fan. the Jazz DO NOT GIVE OUT PROMISES. They did it once and it backfired so badly……Took Raul Lopez over Tony Parker……..and I think they wanted him too. I’m almost certain it was Boston or Milwaukee, but I’d say Boston is probably the team to do it.

bt102ParticipantNIce. I know Pokusevski probably won’t become that MVP type but he has upside and a lot of it.

Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantThe one thing Boston was clearly lacking last season was a big who could stretch the floor. Their centers were both unable to defend Adebayo and draw him away from the basket, which was a major reason for their downfall in the playoffs. Jalen Smith would seem like an ideal and reasonable target for them here. However, since he is already off the board, I don’t really see another clear choice. This team is in some position to draft for the future, so poku is a possibility. However, if they are looking for a guy who can make an impact immediately he isn’t likely to be the choice. They could go for someone like Carey and try to develop him into the type of player they need. Or they could look to address their front court needs through other means and just go bpa. I’m going to say Tyrese Maxey here, another attacking combo guard who can create shots and defend both backcourt positions.

sniperParticipantWell the Celts have probably the best top-6 in the East, and they have several recent first-rounders on the bench who haven’t even gotten a chance yet. Point is, they don’t need a star, or even a starter, out of this pick. That’s why I would take Vernon Carey. I think he is for sure going to be a dependable backup C in the league.

bt102ParticipantIf they want Carey they can take him at #47. He can score but he can’t defend. He’s very similar to Naz Reid except worse defensively. I think there is a real chance he goes undrafted but we will see. He seems to have lost weight but I don’t think it’s going to matter too much.
