dmo21ParticipantI’m still going with Hayes. Be nice to have someone to handle some of the ball handling duties other than Young (do they even have a back up PG???). He’s also big enough to guard 2s. Having Young play off the ball a bit will be nice too as that’ll free him up to be a spot up shooter.
Okungwu is a good but I still have Hayes over him on my board (the diminishing roles of bigs in the league played a part in that). But the Hawks also have Collins and Capela as starters. If they do decide that they don’t want to pay Collins long term, than Okungwu might be a good option now.4+-

OhCanada-ParticipantThe pick is Tyrese Haliburton and heres why.
They need to put in place a guard that can hide Trae Young on the defensive end. Atlanta needs to find versatile players that can allow him not to exert energy on that end of the floor. They also need a secondary ballhandler to allow Young some freedom. Look at what made Curry and the Warriors so great. They had Thompson, Igoudala and Livingston all top tier defensive players allowing Curry to find the easiest matchup on that end.
I personally think Hayes is the better player however I think Haliburton will play the role better and at the point the Hawks are in record wise and with how much of disappointment last season was for them even after Collins returned from suspension they need to make moves that will fill major holes in that lineup.
Okongwu would also be a good pick but they just picked up Capela and havent even given that move a shot. At just 26 years old Capela has already played in 61 playoff games and is a very capable Center. Not to mention Collins can also play the Center position.
This is a guards league, investing $50 million towards the cap for 2 Centers and a 6th overall pick into that position does not help your team. Also even know I have Haliburton as my pick I wouldn’t rule out a trade in which case I’d say Hayes is best player available and the pick.

bt102ParticipantHaliburton. Thanks for doing that btw. I just got off work and was about to do it.

bt102ParticipantThey seem to want a second ball handler with Trae and that could also play backup PG. Teague was not that answer. Hayes does work but Haliburton is the guy. He is a threat from deep and is a good defender and can help Trae defensively. I see the Okongwu argument especially since the Hawks don’t seem to believe in Collins as much as he should get paid. They don’t want to give him the max but he probably deserves it. They also have Capela. So are they drafting Okongwu to play backup Center? I would only be looking at Okongwu for Atlanta if Atlanta managed to swap Collins for #1.

Scrooge McDuckParticipantPeople didn’t even have time to vote.
Haliburton for sure. His shooting was 50% 2pt and 40% 3pt. He’s big and quick enough to guard multiple positions. Young and Haliburton would be an insane passing backcourt.1+ -

BallerScriptParticipantI think the Hawks would most likely go with Okoro here.

I dont think we can close this one yet. Might have to wat a bit. You got a rule on that BT? Every 24 hours maybe?

bt102ParticipantTo answer your question Ohcanda. I’d wait. If we did one every 24 hours, we would hit pick 30, i believe the day before or the day of the draft. I’d call it if it’s around the 18-20 mark if it’s a super strong. Otherwise I’d wait it out. You never know who could come in and make the difference.

sniperParticipantI’m gonna go with Okongwu although I agree with your points, OhCanada, about needing a defensive guard.
But I’ve read that the Hawks aren’t sure about Collins long-term, and may look to move him this season rather than let him walk. Okongwu is an ideal replacement — this site even compares Okongwu to Collins. If they do reach a deal with Collins, Okongwu offers a great backup to both him and Capela.
