Dazzling Dunks and Basketball BloopersParticipantSince the NBA reportedly won’t include bubble games in consideration the races are effectively over at this point. So here are my picks:
MVP: Giannis Antetekounmpo
Lebron was making a push for consideration before the shutdown happened but, truth be told, Giannis has had this pretty much wrapped up since January. He put up unprecedented numbers and anchored the best team in the league on both ends of the court. While Lebron’s production at this stage of his career defies logic, Giannis is just the most powerful force in the league right now.Rookie of the Year: Ja Morant
Zion just didn’t play in enough games to be in the conversation, so it leaves Morant as pretty much the cut and dry runaway winner. No need to analyze this too much.Defensive Player of the Year: Anthony Davis
There are several worthy candidates here. With respect to Bam Adebayo, Ben Simmons, Rudy Gobert among others I think this comes down to Giannis vs. AD. Their overall versatility on defense was the backbone for the two best overall teams in the league. I really wouldn’t be mad if you went either way. Giannis is an absolute terror on the weakside who can basically guard any player one on one if needed. I chose Davis because he just anchors so much of what the Lakers do and his ability to both protect the rim and defend in space is unprecedented in the game today. And he clearly came into the season focused on that end of the court. Most Improved Player: Jayson Tatum
This was probably the toughest award to pick. You could make a strong argument for Luka Doncic, who blossomed into an absolute superstar this year but I kind of feel have a hard time giving the award to second year guys and his development feels more like a natural progression into a higher usage role. Bam Adebayo, Jaylen Brown, Brandon Ingram, Pascal Siakam, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Trae Young all have cases as well. I went with Tatum, who had always shown promise but had stagnated due to poor shot selection last year. He rewired his game, tightened his handle and was blossoming into a guy who looks like a possible future superstar player.Coach of the Year: Nick Nurse
You could make an argument Nurse was dealt a very good hand with the trade for Leonard last season. However, if their were any doubts about his coaching ability they have clearly been answered. Simply put, he is the most innovative coach in the league right now. He dealt wit the loss of Leonard, and several key injuries to players throughout to have the Raptors sitting at second in the East before the shutdown.Sixth Man Award: Montrezl Harrell
This came down to Harrell and Dennis Schroeder for me. Schroeder gets credit for improving his defense and scoring efficiency tremendously over previous seasons. The three guard lineup of CP3, Schroeder and SGA proved to be one of the most unique and devastating weapons in the league. However, the advanced numbers favor Harrell here, who led all primary reserves in value over replacement and total win shares. If their was any doubt over whether Harrell’s contributions would be marginalized on a much more talented roster, he clearly answered it. You could actually make an argument he was as consistently important as any player on the Clippers roster this year during the regular season.All-NBA and All-Rookie and All-Defensive teams coming soon.

bt102ParticipantMVP: Giannis
ROY: Ja MorantNo questions with these
MIP: I’m not going Bam, because the breakout was expected, and he was doing this last year, but Whiteside was limiting him. The answer is Brandon Ingram. How do you go from 68% from FT to 86% on even more attempts. Same with the 3 Pointers, they improved dramatically.
DPOY: Rudy Gobert
He still anchored the Jazz defense, and when he wasn’t on the floor the entire team struggled. There are other candidates, and I don’t think Gobert is gonna win, it will probably be AD because he is in LA.Coach of the Year: Billy Donovan
With Russ, he just let Russ do what he wanted to do. Now, that he has a PG that doesn’t have as big of an ego, they actually got somewhere, and were better than last year, surprisingly. Managing to find good role players in overlooked guys like Abdel Nader, Luguentz Dort, and Darius Bazley. Nurse did a really good job, but this is Billy Donovan.
Sixth Man of the Year: Donte DiVincenzo
He is an instrumental player on the Bucks. Another MIP candidate, that has really helped anchor the Bucks defense off the bench, and is a great piece to fit alongside Giannis in the future. Doesn’t have the flashies of stats, but his defensive impact is undeniable.

2quick4uParticipant– MVP: Giannis Antetokounmpo
The MVP debate is just absurd… Lebron is having a great year but Giannis is having a year for the ages and actually could be in the debate as the greatest single season in NBA History. In fact Giannis is having the greatest individual statistical season in History and yes, that includes Will Chamberlain’s 50pts/25rb/31’7PER campaign which is regarded as the greatest ever in terms of numbers. To comprehend Giannis epic season lets play an easy game.. When Wilt had those numbers in 1962, he did it while playing 48’5min/g and under a PACE of 131.1; Giannis is averaging 29’6pts/13’7rb/5’8ast/31’6PER in just 30’9min and under a 105 PACE; if we convert Gianns numbers into 48’5min and 131.1 pace this is what we get: 58pts/27rb/11ast/49’6PER !!!
You can go head and convert any player’s numbers: MJ, Kareem, Magic, Lebron, Shaq… No one comes even close to Giannis epic numbers, NO ONE.
Now add that he’s the best defender in the league, leading the DWS with 4’8 and the Bucks are the best DEF team by far and add that Giannis has his Bucks 1st in RS and in pace of winning at least 67 games while having Middleton as the 2nd best player… All we can say is one word: FREAK!!!
– ROY: Ja Morant
Not nuch to say.
– DPY: Giannis Antetokounpo
As mentioned above Giannis is not only imposing his will on offense but also on defense and not only the Bucks are the best DEF team by far but Giannis is the best defender as the advanced stats show and as colective numbers and wins reflect. Giannis is the real 1st and only player in history to play as a Point-Center on both sides, he’s just a miracle.. Draymond Green has played that position too but he’s nowhere near close at protecting the rim, changing shots and rebounding like Giannis does and like classical Centers have done in the past. Plus he’s the only player in history whom can really guard any player, any size any position…
MIP: Bam Adebayo
In my opinion this is a 2 men race between him and Tatum, as i believe Sophmores don’t apply and then Ingram is a step behind due to real impact on the game/team.
If season had not stopped due to virus then probaly Tatum would have taken the award home but i think that Bam was more consistent through the year and was vital for MIA success as they were on pace to win 52 games compared to 39 last year. He’s becoming one of the most complete players in the game.
– COY: Mike Budenholzer
Again, the Bucks season is being absolutely historical and to put it into perspective i’m going to throw some numbers; Only 4 teams in NBA history have had higher “SRS” and more “margin points” between “PTS/G” and “Opp PTS/G”, these being LA’s super big3 of 1972 featuring Wilt, West and Baylor, MJ’s historical ’96 Bulls and 2017 Warriors featuring Curry and Durant… the 4th team is Kareem/Big O ‘s Bucks in 1971 closing this way the Cycle… Not only that, but these Bucks are one of only 4 teams in history to end RS 1st in “SRS”, 1st in “PTS/G”, 1st in “DEF Rtg” while winning 60+ games and all that while having Middleton as 2nd best player and more importantly, with Giannis playing 30min a game…
6th Man: Dennis Schroder
I think this is a 2 man race between him and Harrell but considering how dramatically has DS improved his efficiency and how important he’s been in unexpected OKC success, i give him the edge,0 -
