    You got to hand it to this guy. He took the long road to get to the nba, but now that he’s there he’s making the most of his opportunity. Through five games of his rookie year he is averaging 22.4 ppg (more than anyone since KD). He is also averaging 1.8 spg shooting 51% and 48% from 3. That’s a hell of an impressive start for a guy who wasn’t even drafted. I’m not saying I necessarily expect this to keep up, and its inevitable that his mins and production will go down at some point, but I think it’s reasonable to say he’s at least earned himself a spot in the rotation for the foreseeable future, probably at the expense of Dion waiters when he returns.

     Where’s Dion headed, I wonder? Who could use a veteran two? Pros: can get hot and be instant offense, scoring punch off-the-bench type. Prime of his career, 27, young but experienced, scrappy. Cons: questionable shot selection, career 41 percent shooter, seemingly hard to get along with. 

    Signed a four-year contract for $52m in 2017, will make a little over $12m next year. Maybe someone like Dallas would be interested if they stay in the playoff hunt, or maybe Utah?

       Toronto would be a good destination. We need a decent scoring punch off the bench. Powell is a good player scrappy defender and provides alot of energy but his offensive game has proved to be inconsistent at best. Waiters would be a good fit in Toronto if he comes with no ego and intentions to get in shape and work his ass off.

    He attended Simeon High school, same as D. Rose in Chicago. Then went to Illinois for a brief stint.

    Was not a fan after I heard of his domestic violence charge. He plead guilty to hitting a woman and then pushing her to the ground. Would most likely have been a first round pick without that incident.

    Most people deserve a 2nd chance though…. and he was given that at Oakland University. Where I believe I read that he was 3rd in the nation in scoring.

    Now he’s balling for the Heat. He has extreme confidence, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he keeps up at least 80% of this torrid pace for the rest of the year. He knows that there’s talented players in Miami ready to snatch his minutes as soon as he screws up…… I just think (given his background & circumstances) that he’ll continue to maximize the opportunity.

    Very talented scorer & on ball defensive player.

     That’s a big miss having Nunn slip through the draft then several teams. What are scouts culling players on, their birthday? It’s cut throat and impossible to identify how everyone will respond in an NBA setting, I get that. But this kind of start means a lot of people failed here, unless he’s changed something about his game or body that’s caused a significant difference? Does anyone have a good read what he was like in college and what the difference is?

       Aside from the battery charge (which undoubtedly raised a lot of red flags) he was a decent player at Illinois, but not really a dominant one in any sense. Undersized volume scorer who didn’t really have the playmaking skills to run point and kind of an indifferent defender at best. He was a dominant player at Oakland, but that was against a much lower level of competition. Plus he was already 23 when he entered the draft. I could see how he could get overlooked. 

      And again it’s important to remember this is a very small sample size we’re looking at where he is basically an unknown to nba players and coaches. Once the scouting reports get out, and teams get a better idea how to defend him, who knows if he’ll be able to keep it up at anywhere near this level.
