If Boston offers Jalen Brown they’d be the favorites.

Portland would be cool given his dads popularity when he played for them in the 90’s

I don’t know how many money he’s asking for but I hope not too much.

Sabonis, Brown, Hield deserves t be paid but ARE JUST NOT MAX PLAYERS (or 25M per year players).

It’s a job too but if you care about winning you have to be smart and understand that the money you get is the money your team will lack to attract other prospects or to keep your mate with you. 

Look at CP3 (and others) where he is right now… his contract deserves him.

If I’m paying for Sabonis, Hield or Brown,  the most I’m going is 2/40 or 3/60 for each of these guys. Perform and I max you on the next one. If they turn it down for more, fine, but just trade them for what you can get before they walk. They are talented but you can’t pay guys 20+ mil a year when they haven’t done anything, and you shouldn’t be paying guys past their prime like CP3 big deals either.. not the way to build a contender.

The Indiana Pacers need to decide if they’d like to invest long-term in a frontcourt of Myles Turner and Domantas Sabonis in today’s NBA. If they do, expect $18 million to be the probable starting point for negotiations over a possible contract extension.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the $18 million figure is significant because that’s what Turner earned on his own rookie scale contract extension with the franchise last offseason. The two have formed an imposing tandem, although Sabonis has previously operated as the team’s first reserve off the bench.

These days Sabonis has his eye on starting and, as Jack Winter of Basketball Insiders outlines, the team is willing to entertain such a request. The idea of starting two traditional big men alongside each other is seldom employed in today’s NBA but few teams are blessed with a duo as effective as Turner and Sabonis.

Sabonis averaged 14.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game last season, despite playing just 24.1 minutes per contest. Turner averaged 13.3 and 7.2, respectively, in 28.6 minutes of action.

The Pacers elected to grant Sabonis his request to start in the team’s first two preseason games and Winter describes their 16 minutes of shared court time in their opener as a success. The team had a 144.1 offensive rating during that limited sample against the Kings.

The Pacers will have until the October 21 contract extension deadline to commit to Sabonis and avoid him hitting free agency as a restricted free agent next summer. If the two parties don’t come to terms on an extension, they’ll be able to sign him next July or match any offer sheet that another team extends to him.

Indiana won’t have much cap space to play with next summer but should be able to accommodate a respectable extension for Sabonis without breaching the currently projected luxury tax marks for 2

There’s no decision to make between Sabonis and Turner.

Turner protects your house, Sabonis just can’t.

In today’s NBA Sabonis as a PF that doesn’t shoot triples and can’t protect the house is just not worth a lot of money, he’s just a great bench player.

 I disagree that it’s a question of one or the other — ideally Turner and Sabonis adapt to each other and can play together for large chunks of games. But suppose McMillan can only squeeze, say 8 minutes per game out of playing them together. That still 28 mpg for each of them, and means you *always* have a versatile, borderline-allstar at center. That’s not a bad place to be, and both guys can still earn their $20m per year.

Now if Sabonis demands the max you have to look at what you can get for him, but giving it to him isn’t out of the question. He’s really, really good — probably their best player last season — and he’s probably going to get better.
