The Indiana High School Athletic Association's review committee today upheld the ineligibility ruling on basketball standout Eron Gordon.

Gordon, considered one of the top junior basketball players in the country, transferred to Cathedral from North Central this summer. But IHSAA commissioner Bobby Cox ruled that Gordon had transferred for athletic reasons, making him ineligible for 365 days from his last varsity game at North Central.

The IHSAA review committee heard testimony from both sides early last week and issued its ruling this afternoon.

"We're not surprised (about the review committee's decision) because that's usually what happens," said Buddy Yosha, lawyer for the Gordons. "But we are surprised because there is no reason he should be ruled ineligible."

The Gordons have 30 days to submit an appeal to the Department of Education's case review panel, which would issue its ruling based off the transcript of testimony given to the IHSAA's review committee.

Yosha said it wouldn't take 30 days to submit the appeal. If the case review panel upholds the ineligibility ruling, the Gordons could then take it to the state judicial system.

"We're willing to take it as far as necessary," he said.

Gordon, the youngest brother of NBA guard Eric Gordon Jr. and former Indiana guard Evan Gordon, has scholarship offers from Indiana and Purdue. He averaged 14.7 points and 4.4 rebounds as a sophomore and was named third team Super Team by the Star.
