The Isaiah Briscoe Blog: No. 1 PG talks decision day, Connecticut, Kentucky and St. John's and more

After leading Roselle Catholic (Roselle, N.J.) to a state title last season, Lions point guard Isaiah Briscoe, the No. 1 point guard in the ESPN 100, led Playaz Basketball Club (N.J.) to the Nike Peach Jam title, the most prestigious AAU title of the summer. Briscoe’s top three of Connecticut, Kentucky and St. John’s are all putting on the full-court recruiting press. Briscoe’s agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.

Hey, it’s your boy Boog and by now most of y’all know that I cut my list down to three schools: UConn, Kentucky and St. John’s.

I shut interviews and media down recently because it was getting to be a little too much, and I was getting tired of answering the same questions. I was getting annoyed with it. I just wanted to relax and focus on these three schools and think about things.

Plus, I figured I’d just let all the fans know what was up through my blog anyway.

Basically, I was just thinking more and more about the schools I wanted to focus on and I figured it was the right time to cut things down.

I’m gonna announce my decision Thursday at 6 p.m. on ESPNU so make sure y’all tune in. I’m still figuring things out these last few days, but I wanted to get this over with before I started my season so I wanted to go ahead and set the date.

With St. John’s, first off, just staying home and having my family and friends and fans around and being able to watch me play all the time is great. Then, playing in The Garden, it doesn’t get any better than that; plus it’s New York City and that’s the biggest market in the world! I’m cool with the coaches and I think it would be a great fit.

Then with UConn you’ve got Coach (Kevin) Ollie who has played 13 seasons in the NBA as a point guard and I would love to learn from him because of that.

Who wouldn’t want to learn from a guy who’s been there; we’ve got a great relationship too. Then the whole staff there played point guard at UConn and I love the campus.

At Kentucky, it’s basically like a machine of producing players that go to the NBA early; who wouldn’t want to be a part of that? Then their whole style of play fits my game perfectly and the support from the fans is crazy there.

So y’all see I’ve got three schools that would, honestly, be perfect for me.

It’s tough because you develop all of these different relationships with these different coaches and in the end you know it’ll only come down to one.

I feel like I’ll know when I know if that makes sense.

It can be a lot so what I do sometimes is just go to the Knicks or Nets games and just be a kid and watch the pros play. It just gets my mind off of things and I love it.

Plus now, our season is starting up so I’m focusing on that too.

Our team is looking better and better in practice every day!

We got the No. 7 ranking in the USA Today Top 25 and, honestly, I expected that. I’m not surprised at all.

We’ve got myself, another kid in my grade that’s top 100, we’ve got Nazi Reed, a freshman who’s highly regarded; plus we won states last year and everybody came back so, like I said, I expected that.

I’m not worried about having a bull’s-eye; matter of fact, I love that. I prefer it!

OK, y’all I’ve gotta roll out but keep reading my blog and don’t forget to tune in to my decision on Thursday.
