Bishop O’Dowd star Ivan Rabb will tangle with Oak Hill’s Daniel Giddens in California — Bishop O’Dowd High School

The Matchup: No. 1 Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) vs. No. 9 Bishop O’Dowd (Oakland, Calif.) at Mater Dei High School at 8:00 p.m. PST.

Oak Hill Players to Watch: This will sound like a record on repeat, but hey, this is what happens when you’re the No. 1 team in the country playing in a major tournament. Oak Hill is loaded, as it always is. Shooting guard Dwayne Bacon, is a five-star Florida State signee and a top-1o overall prospect in the Class of 2015. Missouri commit and point guard Terrence Phillips is the great facilitator who also can score a big bucket. Ohio State signee Daniel Giddens is a stud on the interior at 6-foot-10.

Bishop O’Dowd Players to Watch: It’s all about Ivan Rabb for Bishop O’Dowd. The 6-foot-10 athletic big man is one of the hardest matchups in the country, which is precisely why he’s a top-1o overall recruit and one of the most sought after players nationwide. He can take over a game in a matter of a few possessions, which is precisely what Oak Hill will have to avoid.

What to Expect: If ever a game was to come down to a matchup in the paint, this might be it. While Rabb can usually dominate in the paint without major fightback. That’s not the case against Oak Hill, with Giddens perfectly capable of holding his own in the paint. Yet, even if Rabb does get the best of his matchup inside, Oak Hill’s depth could cause problems for the in-state Dragons. Of course, this isn’t the first time these squads have faced off this year, with Oak Hill taking the first matchup in late December. Perhaps a revenge factor in store?
