On the same day that BYU basketball coach Dave Rose lost his top assistant, he picked up a commitment from a member of the class of 2016.

Steven Beo, a junior at Richland High in Richland, Wash., noted via Twitter that he has committed to BYU.

"Just got off the phone with coach Rose a little bit ago and have decided that I'll be attending BYU!!! #futurecoug — wrote Beo.

Beo averaged more than 27 points per game last season for the Bombers (yes, Bombers) and scored a school-record 49 points in a game. He helped his team go 19-6 in 2014-15 although it lost in the state tournament quarterfinals.

He averaged 12 points per game on a senior-laden team as a sophomore.

Beo shot 39 percent from the field and 35 percent from 3-point range as a junior.

Beo is LDS, according to an article Neil Warner wrote for the (Provo) Daily Herald last December when Richland visited Utah to play in a tournament at Orem High School.

Richland is on spring break this week, so I haven't been able to reach Beo or his coach, Earl Streufert, for more information.
