As an elite senior-to-be, Mario Kegler has a tough decision coming up.

He wants to go to a school that will use his abilities on the wing, someplace with a great tradition and of course, he wants to be surrounded by good players who can make him better.

College? Who said anything about college? He’s having a hard time deciding on where he will play high school ball this winter.

Kegler, is 6-7 and listed as the No. 36 player in the ESPN 100, played alongside Malik Newman at Callaway (Jackson, Miss.) his sophomore year and helped the Chargers win the state title. He said he wanted to go someplace where he could play on the wing, so last year, he played at Arlington Country Day (Jacksonville, Fla.), which plays a national schedule. He’s looking to upgrade again this season.

“I don’t know where I am going next year,” Kegler said. “It could be Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.).”

While he’s getting his share of calls from high school coaches, he says the recruiting for college is still more intense. He has more than 20 offers from major colleges.

“College is crazy,” Kegler said. “Everyone is trying to get in touch with you.”

He’s at the NBA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville, Va., this week, hoping to make that recruitment process even wilder by improving his status.

“I feel like I am a two or a three in college,” he said. “I need to work on my ballhandling and knocking the three down. Out here, I just want to show I can play, that I’m better than they say I am. I am kind of like the sleeper in the class. Everyone I play against, I’m going after.”
