The top junior point guard in the country has found a new home; Trevon Duval will transfer from St. Benedict’s (Newark, N.J.) to Advanced Prep International (Dallas) for his junior season.

“I wanted to go to a place that was high level with everything from the players to the staff,” Duval told USA Today HSS. “I’ll be playing with Terrance Ferguson and Billy Preston and I can learn from Coach Ray (Forsett) so it’s something I’m really excited about.”

Forsett was the former coach of Prime Prep (Dallas), which closed in January.

Duval said one of the key factors that lured him to API was how well Forsett was able to develop Emmanuel Mudiay, who was drafted No. 7 overall by the Denver Nuggets in this year’s draft.

“I’ve been watching E-Man since he was younger and I’ve seen how much he’s grown under Coach Ray,” Duval said. “I definitely want to learn and get better and I’m excited about this new situation.”

Forsett reiterated that API, which is in the Texas Christian Athletic League, has no affiliation with Prime Prep.

“We’re starting off fresh and new with API and Trevon understands that,” Forsett said. “The only thing that we want to do is to put these kids in the best possible situation to be the best student athletes. It’s a fresh situation and we’re definitely happy to have Trevon on board.”

Duval, who is ranked No. 4 overall in the ESPN 60, averaged 15.9 points per game last season and led St. Benedict’s to the Prep A title.

The trio of Duval, Ferguson, an Alabama commit who is ranked No. 10 overall in the ESPN 100, and Preston, an all-everything wing who is ranked No. 6 overall in the ESPN 60, is, arguably, the most talented in the country.

Duval’s peers awarded him the Best Handles hardware three weeks ago in our Players Choice Awards/Superlatives for his dominant play this summer on the AAU circuit.

“I think we have a chance to win a DICK’s Sporting Goods title,” Duval said. “We have the pieces to get it done and this was a high level situation that I was looking for where I’m competing against the best in practice and in games. You can only get better that way.”
