VIDEO: No. 1 junior recruit DeAndre Ayton dominates at Tarkanian Classic

In case there was any doubt why Hillcrest Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.) 7-footer DeAndre Ayton is unanimously considered the top basketball recruit in the Class of 2017, he erased it on Day 1 of the Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas.

Ayton finished with 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds, illustrating an array of post moves, mid-range jump shots and even 3-pointers in a 69-48 victory against Reno (Nev.) International.

The Bahamian Ayton averaged 21.1 points, 16.0 rebounds, 3.8 blocks, 2.6 assists and 1.6 steals per game for Balboa City (San Diego, Calif.) as a sophomore, before transferring to Hillcrest this past fall. Ayton has been recovering from a fractured kneecap in February that cost him much of his summer ball, but it appears he’s back to dominating.
