Turns out it was a record after all.
After going through the record books Wednesday morning, Glens Falls Athletic Director Chip Corlew confirmed that Joseph Girard III’s 52-point game against Amsterdam on Tuesday was a school record.
The 52 points surpassed the 49-point mark of Jim Town, set against Gloversville on Feb. 9, 1973. Jimmer Fredette had a 46-point effort, also vs. Gloversville, on Feb. 10, 2007. Fredette came out early in the fourth quarter of that game. Girard scored 45 points in the Indians’ season opener against Mekeel Christian.
Girard made eight 3-pointers and was 22 of 22 from the foul line as part of his total vs. Amsterdam. He had 23 points in the fourth, including the team’s final 17 in an 87-82 Foothills Council victory.
For the year, Girard has 35 3-pointers and 60 foul shots in five games. He’s averaging 37.8 points per game.

It may be a school record, but it’s not a family record. Girard’s father, Joe Jr., scored 59 points for St. Mary’s (Glens Falls), which ranks in the top 10 of Section II. The Section II single-game record is 67 points by Rich Campoli of St. Joseph’s (Albany).
