NBA Draft 2016: Furkan Korkmaz to Remain in Turkey Another Season

What a Furkan disappointment.

All indications are that Dario Saric will make his Sixers debut this season, but his teammate will not be coming with him. Word from Europe this morning says Furkan Korkmaz wil remain with Anadolu Efes next season, extending Philadelphia's Furkan drought at least another year.

Calling this news disappointing doesn't feel totally accurate since Korkmaz is probably better served staying in Turkey for another season. The 18-year-old has a lot of work left to do just to prepare his body to compete against NBA competition, and throwing him to the wolves this season would've been rough. Bryan Colangelo previously suggested it might be preferable to get him over sooner and work with him directly, but another year of seasoning can't hurt.

It would have been tough for Korkmaz to get minutes here even if he'd committed to coming over right away. The signings of Jerryd Bayless and Gerald Henderson added depth at the guard/wing spots, taking some possible developmental minutes off the table for players like Korkmaz.

Fingers crossed that he uses an extra year overseas to shore up his problem spots. If he can cash in on his potential, Korkmaz will be a Furkan problem for opposing teams to deal with.
