The Wendell Carter Jr. Blog: Official visit to Harvard, busy senior year and more

Wendell Carter Jr. is ranked No. 2 overall in the ESPN 100 and has a “who’s who” list of suitors to accompany that clout. Carter has won two gold medals with USA Basketball (U16, U17), helped the Georgia Stars win the prestigious Nike Peach Jam last July and dominated this summer with Team CP3 (N.C.). Now, Carter has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.

Wendell Carter Jr.

What’s up world, I’m back at it again with another blog.

Let’s get it!

I’m loving my senior year, but it’s been really busy. I’ve got a lot of responsibilities this year. I wouldn’t say there’s more of a workload; I’d say the material is just a little harder, but I’m handling it.

Then on top of that, I’ve got workouts and talking to college coaches and things like that so it gets to be a  lot at times, but I love it.

I think, right now, my toughest class is Calculus Honors; but, the funny thing is that it’s also my favorite class.

I took an official visit to Harvard recently and I had a great time. It was very interesting.

It wasn’t what I was expecting.

When you think of Harvard you think of a bunch of bookworms that are always in the library studying, but when I went there and got to hang out with the players I saw that Harvard is really just like most campuses even though it’s an Ivy League school. It’s really fun!

Everyone is really laid back and nice so I really liked that. I got to hang out with the staff and get to know the coaches better and play with the team. I think the best part was being able to play some pickup games with Jaylen Brown. He’s at Boston with the Celtics now and we ended up on the same team.

We won every game too.

I would give the visit a 9 out of 10!

I’ll probably take another visit to Georgia on Oct. 14, but I’ll know for sure by this weekend. I go to Duke on Oct. 22 and then I go to Georgia Tech on Nov. 4.

Now that I’ve been on one visit I know even more what I’ll be looking for on each visit; how the school treats its student athletes, the social aspect, the academic aspect and what it’s like being a basketball player there. I’ll be there for the next visits during the season so I’ll get to see what practice is like and everything like that. I’m looking forward to it.

Of course me and my man Gary (Trent) are still talking about teaming up in college. We’re on the same page with wanting to do it so we’re gonna see what happens.

I wouldn’t say we’re like Jahlil Okafor and Tyus Jones as far as guaranteeing it, but it’s something we both want to work out.

We’ll be visiting Duke together so that’ll be cool.

Kentucky stopped recruiting me and Arizona did too; I’m not sure why with Kentucky did, but I kinda understand why Arizona did.

With everything going on I make sure to get in time to work on my game. Basically, what I’m mostly working on is putting up lots of shots, being able to get open, being able to create space without putting the ball on the floor and things like that. I’m trying to expand my game beyond what people have seen.

Even though I’ve been busy, I’ve had a little time to get some TV in.

I am catching up on Power and I watch Empire too!

They’re both great, but I’d probably have to say that Power is a little better.

Love that show; check them both out if you haven’t already, but I’m sure most of you have.

OK, everybody I told you I was busy and tonight I’ve got lots of homework but I wanted to give you a quick update.

Check back soon for my new blog.

I’m out.
