Gaddy, one of nation's top prep prospects, to sign with Huskies

Abdul Gaddy, one of three recruits to withdraw his commitment to Arizona after Lute Olson retired as men's basketball coach last week, has announced he will sign a letter of intent next month to play at Washington.

Gaddy, a 6-3, 170-pound point guard from Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma, Wash., who is rated as the No. 2 point guard in the nation and No. 14 overall in the ESPNU 100, withdrew his commitment to Arizona last week when Olson announced his retirement for health reasons.

"It's been a crazy week," Gaddy told ESPN.com. "I took the whole situation at Arizona as a sign that I need to stay home and play for [Washington] coach [Lorenzo] Romar. I have a great relationship with the entire staff, plus it's so close to home, I feel like in the end I made the right decision."

In particular, Gaddy said his relationship with Romar is what drove him to Washington, he said.

"Coach Romar is a great guy, a straight-up guy," he said. "He's been honest and upfront with me through all of this. I really believe he is one of the best college coaches in the country and will really prepare me for the NBA, which is my ultimate goal."

Washington, along with UCLA, had been among the schools recruiting Gaddy before he committed to Arizona. With the Wildcats' coaching situation unsettled, Gaddy reconsidered the Huskies, his father said.

"We came back to the drawing board and Coach Romar has always been there," his father, Abdul Gaddy Sr., said, according to the Seattle Times. "He's followed him since he was a freshman in high school. And it will be a great opportunity to play in front of family and friends. It was just kind of a no-brainer at the end."

The early signing period for college basketball begins Nov. 12.

According to the Arizona Daily Star, forward Mike Moser, who decommitted as well, said he likely will wait until the spring signing period before making a decision. Moser, from Portland, Ore., told the Daily Star he might reconsider the Wildcats.

Forward Solomon Hill, from Los Angeles, decommitted on Friday, and is considering hometown USC, among other schools.
