Young, a senior who is ranked No. 15 overall in the ESPN 100, led Mokan Elite to the uber-prestigious Nike Peach Jam and won gold with USA’s U18 basketball team in Chile this past summer. Young is being pursued by everyone from Kansas to Oklahoma to Stanford to Kentucky to Texas, among many others. He’s agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.

What’s up world, Trae here back with another blog for you so let’s go!

We’ve played one game so far against Dallas Skyline and we lost to a good team. We didn’t have two starters because they were still playing football and they would’ve helped a lot, but we had to go with what we had. We learned to be patient; we let them take us out of our game. I ended up with 33 points and seven dimes, but should’ve had more. They slowed us down a lot; we’re used to putting up about 85 points a game and we only had 55 in that one.

Our team will be fine though. No doubt.

We’ve got our first home game tonight against Stillwater and we’re excited!

Things with my recruitment are going good as usual.

A lot of guys have signed now and that’s different, but nothing has changed for me as far as my interest in any of the schools.

With Kentucky, they got Quade Green and I was so happy for him and his family. They also picked up another guard in Alexander, but you have to look at Coach Cal’s resume; he’s always played with two or three guards on the court at the same time, so anything is possible. I definitely feel like I can play with anyone. I consider myself a position-less guard, I can do it all (Pass, shoot, score and defend).

Plus, we played together really well at USA Basketball.

With Kansas, it’s funny; I don’t think people understand how long Kansas has been recruiting me. People assume it’s always been down to just Kentucky and Oklahoma and that’s not true.

Kansas has been recruiting me since sophomore summer consistently, and they’re definitely a serious contender along with Oklahoma State. I’m gonna get down there to catch a game or two in the next month or so.

I’ve been talking to Billy (Preston) a lot too ever since he signed there.

Then Jawun Evans has been balling! So Oklahoma State’s looking good with me too. I talk to their staff a lot. I’ve gotten really close with assistant Lamont Evans. He’s so real, and we talk about more than just basketball.

I’m pretty up in the air about when I could make my decision because my situation is unique. I want to see which guards are leaving/staying and which team gives me the best chance to be me, and not change my game. So mid-to-late winter will be the timeframe for me to commit. The more I watch the teams play the more I pick out certain things I like and certain things I don’t like. I realize this is all a HUGE BLESSING to have options, but I also know that I’ve WORKED HARD to get to a level where I can be patient and do what’s right for me.

OK, on the classroom side, everything is going really good. I’m staying on top of things and my grades are strong. Always good to know that academics are not an issue and I can focus on the b-ball.

Of course, I have to give you a movie recommendation; you’ve gotta go check “Almost Christmas.”  It’s a very funny movie with a lot of my favorite actors/actresses in it. Definitely go check it out.

Oh and I went to the Rae Sremmurd concert recently and that was dope!  I got to chill backstage and meet them too, so that was a great experience.

I heard that new single Black Beattles and that was live!  It was crazy seeing the fans go crazy over that song. I did the same at the Lil Uzi Vert concert. 🔥🔥🔥

OK everybody, I appreciate you all for reading this blog. Be on the lookout for the next one because it’s coming soon.

Peace out, #TY11!
