Rainier Beach shines down the stretch, defeats Whitney Young and Jahlil Okafor 89-82 (Les Schwab Invitational game recap)

David Crisp scored 33 points to lift Rainier Beach of Seattle to a 89-82 win over Whitney Young of Chicago in a Les Schwab Invitational semifinal Sunday night.

The battle of nationally-ranked teams came down to a sensational fourth quarter, where the Vikings outscored Whitney Young 29-23.

Rainier Beach advances to the LSI championship game, where it faces Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas at 8:30 p.m. Monday.

Whitney Young’s Jahlil Okafor, headed for Duke and the nation’s No. 1 recruit for 2014, had 28 points and 13 rebounds for the Dolphins. Paul White added 26 for Whitney Young.

Rainier Beach shot 61 percent from the floor, hitting 31 of 51 shots. Whitney Young was nearly as sharp, hitting 58 percent (30 of 52).

Trailing 57-52, Rainier Beach outscored Whitney Young 8-2 during the final three minutes of the third quarter to take a 60-59 lead. Midway through the fourth, Naim Ladd scored back-to-back baskets, followed by a 3-pointer from Crisp to give the Vikings an 81-74 lead.

Whitney Young pulled as close as one point during the final minute, but Rainier Beach hit several free throws to survive.
