Junior guard Andre Hollins could be out another two games with a left ankle injury, University of Minnesota basketball coach Richard Pitino said at his Friday news conference.
Hollins, who leads the team in scoring with a 15.4-point average, will not play Saturday against Northwestern at Williams Arena.
Pitino said he would be very surprised if his captain returns for the Feb. 5 game at Purdue.
“We’ll continue to revaluate,” Pitino said. “He’s very unlikely versus Purdue and a little bit better chance versus Indiana (on Feb. 8 at home).”
Hollins sprained his ankle 16 seconds into the 81-68 victory over Wisconsin on Jan. 22.
Senior guard Malik Smith started his first game in place of Hollins in Sunday’s loss at Nebraska, making eight three-point shots and scoring 29 points.
